On June 12, the European Commission (EC) published Regulation No. 2024/1662 signed on June 11, 2024 on reviewing the application of additional enhanced inspection measures and emergency measures to manage the import of agricultural and food products from third countries into the EU market according to Regulation 2019/1793.

"Accordingly, Vietnam's instant noodles (noodles, vermicelli, rice noodles, and pho with seasoning) are removed from food safety control in the EU because they meet EU regulations. This regulation takes effect from July 2, 2024.

In addition to instant noodles, the EU has also adjusted inspection regulations for a number of other agricultural and food products from Vietnam. For dragon fruit, the frequency of border inspections has been increased from 20% to 30%.

Chili products are transferred from Appendix I (50% control) to Appendix II (50% control and accompanied by a Food Safety Certificate and analysis results of pesticide residues in the product).

Okra is maintained at a 50% inspection frequency and is accompanied by a Food Safety Certificate and analysis results of pesticide residues in the product. Durian is maintained at a 10% inspection frequency.

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Quan - Vietnam Trade Counselor in the Kingdom of Belgium and the EU, the removal of instant noodles from food safety control in the EU is the result of the tireless efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, relevant authorities and businesses in improving the quality and ensuring food safety for instant noodle products exported to the EU.

Being removed from food safety control is an important step forward, helping Vietnamese instant noodles easily access the EU market, which has great potential with more than 450 million people. This is also a testament to Vietnam's efforts in building a national brand for agricultural products.

The EU’s adjustment of inspection regulations for Vietnamese agricultural and food products is a positive signal showing the EU’s trust in Vietnam’s food quality and safety. Vietnamese enterprises need to continue to make efforts to improve product quality to meet the increasingly high requirements of the EU market.
