According to TechRadar , in a recent announcement by Larry Ellison, Oracle's CTO, confirmed that Meta will use Oracle Cloud's AI (artificial intelligence) infrastructure to support the development of AI agents based on the Llama model. This is part of a strategic cooperation agreement between the two companies to promote AI solutions.
“Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has helped train many of the world’s most important generative AI models because we do it faster and more cost-effectively than other cloud platforms,” Ellison said. “AI models and AI agents trained at Oracle will help accelerate scientific discovery, economic development, and business growth globally.”
Meta’s decision to move to Oracle Cloud comes as Oracle is seeing significant growth in its cloud infrastructure business thanks to growing demand for AI. However, Oracle’s financials paint a mixed picture.
Oracle reported revenue of $14.06 billion for the second quarter of fiscal 2024, up 9% year-over-year but still below analysts' estimates of $14.1 billion. The cloud computing segment, which accounted for 77% of Oracle's total revenue, grew 12% to $10.81 billion. Oracle also reported a 336% increase in GPU consumption over the past three months, indicating strong demand for the high-performance computing resources needed to power AI.
Neither Oracle nor Meta has provided further details about the partnership, but experts predict that the deal could give both sides a strategic advantage in the increasingly fierce AI race.
