Water pollution and saltwater intrusion pose significant challenges to clean water resources for the Mekong Delta.

After 13 years of research, including 5 years at the University of Florida (USA), Dr. Do Huu Quyet wants to answer the question of whether creating clean water through Vietnamese technology can reach the world.
Treatment of saltwater intrusion and multi-pollution
Dr. Do Huu Quyet is currently the CEO of Maxdream Joint Stock Company (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), a company known for its water purifier products that apply CDI - a technology to remove dissolved ions in water by applying a voltage across two electrodes.
He returned from the US with research results on CDI, determined to find a solution to the problem of drought and salinity in the Mekong Delta.
"During the research process, in addition to saltwater intrusion, I realized that water has many sources of pollution from underground, agricultural and industrial activities, domestic wastewater discharge... The technology I researched not only treats saltwater intrusion but also treats multiple pollutions, which is all the more reason for me to pursue it," said Mr. Quyet.
With the new technology, if the salt water in the West can be filtered, it can be done for other areas. His friends knew about it and offered to contribute capital, Quyet contributed technology and together they founded a company. 2 million USD is the amount spent on the research process of CDI filter core technology.
Maxdream CDI water purifier was born in 2020, researched from actual water sources in three regions. The results show that it effectively treats dissolved ions in water of super small size, filtering super pure water.

CDI water purifier products provided by Maxdream include household water purifiers, total source water filtration systems, industrial water filtration solutions, ultra-pure water filtration systems, water filtration systems for schools and offices, and rainwater purifiers.
Products certified by national water purifier standards to process normal tap water into direct drinking water while still retaining natural minerals in the water.
The machine is also researched to optimize operating costs such as having fewer cores, not using mineral compensation cores, and less wastewater to minimize waste of water resources. At the same time, it increases the durability of the filter core, and the amount of electricity consumed is only equivalent to a light bulb.

During the dry season, the Southwest lacks clean water. We calculate that if the Southeast uses this technology, it will be able to save enough water for the entire West during the dry season.

Impressive solutions for the environment
Maxdream chooses for itself the mission of becoming a reputable enterprise, providing clean water, diverse natural minerals that are good for health.
But creating a product is difficult, optimizing production costs and prices to suit consumers' budgets is an even more difficult problem.
Many customers called to ask about the "made in Vietnam" product, but only a few machines were sold. Because the price at that time was 15 million VND, not cheaper than that of big brands. People also did not know the quality of CDI technology, so the business was not effective.
It took Maxdream a whole year to bring the price down to 8-9 million VND. "We improved the filter and power source. We have researched the core technology, using mostly domestically produced and assembled accessories to reduce costs and make the price more competitive," said Mr. Quyet.
With the desire to master technology and bring Vietnamese technology to the world, Maxdream representative said that they will continue to improve and develop products for export, affirming the position of Vietnamese science on the world map.
Maxdream was once in the top 50 of the Start-up Wheel 2023 competition. This start-up also aims for the US EPA public health standards.
This new product has the advantage of selectively filtering out toxins, adjusting the taste of water, and improving the disadvantages of maintenance costs, power sources, etc. compared to old technology.
Previously, in addition to costs, the problem of internal consensus was the way to organize and operate a technology startup company, which is quite new in Vietnam, but now everything is stable and running smoothly.
As the new product gradually stabilizes, Mr. Quyet spends time attending seminars and fairs to introduce new technology water purifiers. The CEO has faith in the technology, quality and durability, and Maxdream will be chosen by Vietnamese people.
Honoring outstanding startups
Tuoi Tre Start-up Award 2024 is organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper and the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, in collaboration with the Business Startup Support Center (BSSC) and the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Vietnam).
The judging panel will contact and connect with startups through the special Coffee Talk judging format. The promising startups will be honored at the gala scheduled for November 10.
The finalists will receive funding from the following organizations: VinaCapital, ACB Bank, Volvo, KN Group, Dai-ichi Life Vietnam, An Hoa, Faslink, Ecco Golf Vietnam, Tin Nghia...
The special prize (100 million VND) from the program's advisory board is Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai - Chairman of PRO Vietnam.
