Bruno Fernandes contributed an assist in Man Utd's 2-1 win in the FA Cup final against Man City on the evening of May 25. Former midfielder Roy Keane criticized Bruno Fernandes this season and once asked to "strip the captaincy" of the 29-year-old star because he thought he was not a real leader. “It was a typical Man Utd performance. They were resilient, defended well and had some sharp attacks. Man Utd scored two goals. Man Utd had a bit of confidence coming into the game with the last two wins against Newcastle and Brighton. They showed their character,” Roy Keane told ITV .
Now Roy Keane can't criticise Bruno Fernandes anymore
"I've been critical of Bruno over the years but I'm glad I've been proven wrong because his leadership was outstanding today. We always talk about what a great player Bruno is. I'm delighted for the Man Utd fans. It's been a disappointing few months for the club and we're quick to criticise the players. Man City didn't have a good day and Man Utd didn't have a good day," Keane continued.
"We have to enjoy moments like that. Wembley Stadium is only great when you win," the former Man Utd player affirmed.
Man Utd disappointed when finishing 8th in the Premier League in the 2023-24 season. However, Bruno Fernandes was the team's most outstanding player with 15 goals and 12 assists this season. The Portuguese star received the MU Player of the Season award.
In an article in The Players' Tribune titled "Dear Man Utd", Bruno Fernandes confided: "As captain, I simply try to be myself, Bruno. Not another legend or another persona, but myself. And for me, honesty is everything. The fans deserve honesty in the way you support us."
Bruno Fernandes' future remains uncertain as Man Utd are reportedly willing to sell the midfielder to raise funds for the summer transfer window. However, Bruno has stressed his desire to stay at Old Trafford as long as the club shows commitment to future development ambitions.
