According to Bernama news agency, Malaysia plans to accept applications from foreign workers in three fields: textiles, jewelry manufacturing and hairdressing from October 10.
Minister of Human Resources V. Sivakumar said that the total number of foreign workers that Malaysia needs to recruit this time is 7,500 people, of which about 5,000 foreign workers are currently working in the above 3 fields in Malaysia (according to records of the Immigration Department). For the hairdressing industry, workers are required to have a practice certificate recognized by the government. For jewelry and textile shops, the number of foreign workers must not exceed 15% of the number of local workers (business establishments with a floor area of 1,000-5,000m 2 ) and 3-4 workers (200-999m 2 ).
Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar estimated that Malaysia currently needs about 15,000 foreign workers for the three sectors, which have been frozen since 2009.
