After announcing the new iMac and Mac mini series, Apple continued to launch the new MacBook Pro line with 14-inch versions running M4 chip and 14-inch and 16-inch versions running high-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.
With the M4 chip version: this update brings a more powerful M4 chip, a minimum of 16 GB of RAM (previously only 8 GB) and a Thunderbolt port. It is known that the M4 chip with 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores helps bring powerful performance to users.
Similar to the new iMac model, the 14-inch MacBook Pro has a minimum of 16GB of RAM and users have up to 32GB of RAM to choose from, with internal memory ranging from 512GB up to 2TB.
It features a nano-texture display option with a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, a new 12MP Center Stage camera, and up to 24 hours of battery life.
Along with the Silver color option, Apple is also adding a Space Black color option for the base 14-inch model - a color previously reserved for the high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the high-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips will have a minimum of 23GB of RAM (up from 18GB on the previous generation). They all have three Thunderbolt 5 ports, providing speeds of up to 120Gbps - three times the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4.
Additionally, native DisplayPort 2.1 output over USB-C is supported. Thunderbolt 5 is fully compatible with USB4 and supports advanced protocols like PCIe 4.0, enabling faster data access speeds for storage devices and peripherals.
The M4 Pro chip has a 14-core CPU with 10 performance cores, 4 efficiency cores and a 20-core GPU for twice the performance of the M4. Models using the M4 Pro chip will have a 75% increase in memory bandwidth compared to the previous generation, with performance up to 3 times faster than models using the M1 Pro chip.
The M4 Max chip version has a CPU of up to 16 cores and a GPU of 40 cores, 3 times faster than the M1 Max chip. MacBooks using the M4 Max chip provide 3.5 times the performance of the M1 Max according to Apple. This processor also supports up to 128 GB of RAM.
The 14-inch/16-inch models with the M4 Pro/M4 Max chip will feature a Liquid Retina XDR display, an optional nano-coating, 1,000 nits of peak brightness for SDR content, and a 12MP Center Stage camera. The M4 Pro model offers up to 22 hours of battery life, while the M4 Max model has up to 18 hours of battery life.
The new MacBook Pro models all have HDMI ports that support resolutions up to 8K. The M4 Pro version supports up to three 6K displays at 60Hz via Thunderbolt or HDMI. The M4 Max version supports up to three external displays at 6K resolution at 60Hz via Thunderbolt and one external display at up to 4K resolution at 144Hz via HDMI.
The new laptops all feature an SDXC card slot, a MagSafe 3 port for charging and a headphone jack, and support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro models are available in Space Black and Silver.
