On the evening of March 18, Coach Troussier finalized the list of 28 players of the Vietnam National Team to go to Indonesia to prepare for the match in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia. Accordingly, the 5 names that Coach Troussier crossed out were Cong Phuong, Duy Manh, Hai Long, Giap Tuan Duong and Tien Anh.

Among these 5 players, the most regrettable cases are Cong Phuong and Duy Manh. Both are not in the best physical condition to be able to play against Indonesia on March 21 (at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium) and March 26 (at My Dinh National Stadium).

In the case of Cong Phuong, this player was injured on March 2, in a match with Yokohama FC's B team. He had to rest for 2 days afterwards before undergoing treatment, practicing separately with the Japanese team's fitness coach and physical therapist from March 5-10. Cong Phuong had 2 days to travel from Japan to Vietnam before joining the team on March 13.

The striker born in 1995 trained with the Vietnamese team for 3 sessions, from March 13 to 15 according to the assigned training plan. On March 16, Cong Phuong suffered a relapse of his injury and has been absent from training for the past 2 days.

On March 18, Cong Phuong said he could return to light training, but based on the assessment of the medical team, Coach Troussier had to temporarily part ways with Cong Phuong to avoid him possibly suffering a more serious injury.

In Duy Manh’s case, he suffered a strained anterior thigh muscle after playing continuously in the national professional league for Hanoi FC. If he plays at high intensity, the risk of a torn muscle may occur to the central defender born in 1996.

In fact, Duy Manh was on the list of the Vietnamese team, but on the morning of March 18, this player met privately with Coach Troussier to discuss his situation. He proactively asked Coach Troussier to temporarily not participate in the next 2 matches with Indonesia to give himself time to rest, as well as to open up opportunities for other players with better form and fitness.

Coach Troussier's point of view is to prioritize the players' injury recovery. Because any player who plays in a state of less than 100% health can lead to more serious injuries, affecting their career.

According to the plan, the whole team will leave for Indonesia this morning, March 19. Here, Coach Troussier and his students will have 2 more training sessions to complete the final preparations for the match with the host team on March 21. After the match, the Vietnam team will return to practice, preparing for the second leg match taking place on March 26 at My Dinh National Stadium.

VOV.VN - Coach Shin Tae Yong received bad news before the match with the Vietnam national team, when three players Jordi Amat, Elkan Baggott and Yance Sayuri were injured and could not play on March 21.

VOV.VN - Coach Troussier encouraged his players, calling them warriors before the Vietnamese team left for Indonesia to compete.
