On February 15, specialist doctor 2 Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, said that after receiving patient T., doctors noted that the child's left hand was crushed, the left side of the abdomen had soft tissue damage, and the right thigh had a black burn injury about 3x2 cm.
The patient was immediately given emergency treatment to remove the wound on the left side of the abdomen and right thigh. The wound on the left hand was broken and could not be stitched, so the stump was amputated. The child was given painkillers and antibiotics.
The patient's family said that a neighbor set off fireworks on New Year's Day. A firecracker fell into the yard and the child accidentally picked it up and it exploded. The family quickly took the child to the City Children's Hospital for emergency treatment.
A girl was hit by a firecracker, causing her hand and soft tissue in the left abdomen to be crushed.
Doctor Tien warned parents to absolutely not let their children play with fireworks, as they are very dangerous and can cause serious damage to body parts and even death.
During the period from before to after the Lunar New Year, hospitals also continuously recorded many cases of children having accidents due to firecrackers. According to data from the Ministry of Health on February 12, during the 4 days of Tet holiday (from 7:00 a.m. on the 29th to 7:00 a.m. on the 3rd), 507 cases of examination and emergency care due to firecrackers of all kinds were recorded, 134 more cases than the same period of the Lunar New Year 2023.
From 7:00 a.m. on February 11 (the second day of the Lunar New Year) to 7:00 a.m. on February 12 (the third day of the Lunar New Year), the whole country had 53 cases of examination and emergency care due to firecrackers, 4 more cases than the same day of the Lunar New Year 2023, of which 29 cases had to be hospitalized for monitoring and treatment.
