(MPI) - On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day, and the 79th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Planning and Investment Sector, on the afternoon of December 15, 2024, the Ministry of Planning and Investment coordinated with the Ministry of National Defense to organize the Awarding Ceremony of the Medal "For the Cause of the Vietnam Planning and Investment Sector" and the Medal "For the Cause of Building the Vietnam People's Army". Attending the Ceremony were General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense and Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, member of the Party Central Committee.
Also attending the ceremony were leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army. On the side of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, there were Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duc Tam, and former Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong. Also attending were leaders of relevant units of the two Ministries.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung sent his best wishes to General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, and all leaders, officers and soldiers of the Ministry of National Defense on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army.
Minister Nguyen Chi Dung expressed that the Ministry of National Defense's organization of awarding the Medal for the cause of building the Vietnam People's Army to me personally and a number of leaders and department-level officials of the Ministry of Planning and Investment on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army is a very special event, a great honor, pride and truly touching for us.
This is a special recognition of the contributions of the Ministry of Planning and Investment in general and of a number of leaders, officers and experts of the Ministry in particular, affirming the close coordination between the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Planning and Investment in advising the Party and State on mechanisms, policies and ensuring resources for the defense sector, contributing to building an increasingly lean, strong, disciplined and modern People's Army, meeting the increasingly high requirements for ensuring national defense, associated with the requirements of economic development tasks and ensuring national defense and security in the new situation.
Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that in recent times, the increasingly complex and unpredictable world situation, along with traditional and non-traditional security issues, has created an urgent need to build an increasingly elite and modern army that can respond quickly, promptly, and effectively to all unexpected situations, respond to and support people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, epidemics, rescue, and disaster relief, as well as participate in socio-economic development.
In response to that requirement, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as the Party and State's general advisory body on strategies, planning, and socio-economic development plans, has proactively, actively, and closely and effectively coordinated with the Ministry of National Defense and relevant agencies in all situations to advise competent authorities on many policies, mechanisms, and strategies, and prioritize investment resources to fully and promptly meet investment requirements to enhance national defense potential, build a strong, lean, and modern army, especially strategic, central, and key projects of the army, to meet the requirements of successfully completing all assigned tasks.

Implementing the Resolution of the 8th Central Committee, Session XIII, on the Strategy for National Defense in the new situation and Resolution No. 05-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the organization of the Vietnam People's Army for the period 2021-2030 and the following years, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will continue to closely coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense and other ministries and branches to advise the Party and the Government on priority, outstanding policies, mechanisms, and investment in national defense, creating a solid foundation to strive by 2030 to build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern, politically strong People's Army, improve overall quality and combat strength, and meet mission requirements in all situations.
In addition to professional work, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has assigned the Department of National Defense and Security to preside over and coordinate with units under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and a number of units of the Ministry of National Defense to organize many meaningful activities such as propaganda, sports exchanges, visits to the Military History Museum, Cao Bang's origin, visits and gifts to a number of former leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, former leaders of the Department of National Defense and Security of different periods, organizing the awarding of commemorative medals between leaders of the two ministries and meeting with retired officials of the Department of National Defense and Security,... on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army.
On a personal level, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung shared: “I come from a revolutionary family, my father was a senior officer in the army and was formerly the Director of Department 1 of the State Planning Commission, now the Department of National Defense and Security of the Ministry of Planning and Investment. I myself was once an army officer in the Engineering Corps and also participated in the battle at Vi Xuyen front, protecting the northern border. Therefore, on important occasions like this, I always feel moved and proud of the army tradition, the family tradition, especially the occasion when I and a number of comrades of the Ministry of Planning and Investment received the Medal for the cause of building the Vietnam People's Army awarded by the army like today. This is truly an honor, a valuable encouragement for us to continue to coordinate more closely, accompany you to excellently complete the assigned tasks”.
Minister Nguyen Chi Dung wished General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, and all leaders, officers, and soldiers of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, and all comrades good health, happiness, and success. Congratulations to the heroic Vietnam People's Army on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day.

At the ceremony, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense expressed, "I and the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army are very happy and excited to receive the Medal "For the cause of the Vietnamese Planning and Investment sector" from the Minister of Planning and Investment. At the same time, I expressed my joy in awarding the Medal "For the cause of building the Vietnam People's Army" to the leaders of the Ministry and heads of units of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
According to General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, this is the recognition of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense for the important contributions of comrades of the Ministry of Planning and Investment in the cause of building and developing the Vietnam People's Army, especially in planning, investment, capital assurance, and state budget for defense and military work; at the same time, expressing gratitude to the Minister and leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment for their deep affection and concern for the Ministry of National Defense; as well as the attention, coordination, support, and creation of conditions in all aspects for the Ministry of National Defense to successfully complete its planning, investment, and budget tasks in the recent past.
General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, emphasized that the work of Planning, Investment and Statistics has a particularly important position and role, providing strategic advice to the Party, the National Assembly and the Government in leading, directing, coordinating the macro-economy, socio-economic development and state management. Planning and Investment officers are the vanguard soldiers in renewing economic thinking, pioneers in innovation, and chiefs of the general staff in building strategies, planning and socio-economic development plans of the country, actively contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Regarding the Army, in recent years, the leaders and functional agencies of the Ministry of Planning and Investment have paid attention to, coordinated with, and assisted the Ministry of National Defense in planning and investment work, ensuring investment capital from the State budget for defense projects, tasks, and tasks, such as advising on capital allocation to invest in important and urgent projects serving defense tasks, building a system of military projects; projects under the defense industry program; investing in the construction of defense economic zones; building a system of military warehouses; manufacturing weapons and equipment; investing in the purchase of weapons and equipment for search and rescue; building command headquarters of units, making an important contribution to the Ministry of National Defense in successfully fulfilling its functions and tasks of advising the Party and State on defense and military work, firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and islands of the Fatherland.
In the coming time, the cause of building and defending the Fatherland of our people will have a new development step. The army is in the process of modernization, requiring large investment resources. The Ministry of National Defense requests the Ministry of Planning and Investment to continue to pay attention, advise, and propose to the Party, the National Assembly, and the Government mechanisms and policies for investment and capital allocation to build a national defense for all people, build a strong People's Army, and meet the requirements of tasks in the new situation; at the same time, help the Ministry of National Defense to remove difficulties and obstacles in investment and budget work, said General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense.

At the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung awarded the Medal "For the cause of the Planning and Investment sector of Vietnam" to General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Minister of National Defense, General Nguyen Tan Cuong and 13 individuals from the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
