Mr. Nguyen Thuc Phuoc Hai, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Binh district (Binh Thuan) said that the OCOP product evaluation and classification council of the district has just recognized more agricultural products and specialties to achieve OCOP stars in 2024, including the sun-dried beef product of Mr. Ba Huu Nhi in Phan Hoa commune, Bac Binh district.
Sun-dried beef, eat and you will be addicted
Standing out in this group of OCOP stars is the Huu Nhi sun-dried beef product of a Cham farmer in Phan Hoa commune, Bac Binh district.
Many old farmers in Bac Binh district (Binh Thuan) said that this land is famous for its "excessive sunshine and lack of rain" and large land area, so it is suitable for raising cows and developing livestock.
Because of the lack of rain, the beef raised in this land produces very delicious meat, which is unmatched anywhere else. Seizing this opportunity, Mr. Ba Huu Nhi (born in 1982), a Cham ethnic in Binh Minh village, Phan Hoa commune, followed his father's traditional profession and prepared a sun-dried beef dish that everyone loves.
Mr. Ba Huu Nhi said that his family has been involved in agricultural production, processing sun-dried beef for about 20 years in Phan Hoa commune. In addition to processing sun-dried beef, Mr. Nhi and his wife also grow coconuts to sell fruit, open a coffee shop to sell to people around...
According to Mr. Ba Huu Nhi, to have a delicious sun-dried beef dish, different from many other regions, he always chooses the thigh and tenderloin of young cows. Fresh beef is ordered by Mr. Ba Huu Nhi's family in advance from local slaughterhouses to be used as raw materials for processing.
Thanks to the combination of spices such as garlic, chili, pepper, fish sauce, salt and some special forest leaf flavors of this region, along with the family's own secret recipe, the beef has a special flavor. After marinating the beef, Mr. Ba Huu Nhi used a knife to cut the beef into thick slices, dried it in the sun from morning to afternoon to get the finished product... Therefore, after processing, the beef grilled over hot coals is fragrant, delicious and irresistible...
Mr. Ba Huu Nhi’s sun-dried beef products are carefully packaged and vacuum-sealed before being put on the market. According to Mr. Ba Huu Nhi, with high-value products like sun-dried beef, the peak consumption market is during the Lunar New Year, when customers buy them as gifts…
The busiest time for his family is from December 18 to 20 every year. During this time, his family processes hundreds of kilograms of fresh meat every day. The price of the finished product, one-sun-dried beef, currently sold by his family on the market is 650,000 VND/kg.
When he heard that his family's "Sun-dried beef - Phan Hoa commune" product was ranked 3-star OCOP by the People's Committee of Bac Binh district and had undergone food hygiene certification procedures according to regulations, Mr. Ba Huu Nhi was very happy.
"I hope this product will contribute to the economic development of rural areas and Cham households in the commune. I strongly believe that the product and brand "Phan Hoa Sun-Dried Beef" of the Cham people will grow further, creating more jobs for farmers with stable income...", Mr. Ba Huu Nhi shared.
