Maintain 24/7 water on-call
In recent days, Mr. Do Van Quang and many workers at Phu Sa field pumping station (Son Tay town) have been on duty 24/7 to operate the generators to take water from the Red River and lead it to the irrigation canal system in the fields. This is an important pumping station, providing water for spring rice cultivation for tens of thousands of hectares in the districts of Phuc Tho, Thach That, Quoc Oai...
“We operate 32 units with a capacity of 1,100m3/hour each continuously even during the Lunar New Year. Currently, 12 workers are still assigned to be on duty, monitoring the water level of the Red River to operate the water intake units at maximum capacity…” - said Mr. Do Van Quang, Team Leader of the Phu Sa Field Pumping Station Operation Team.
At Ba Giang field pumping station (Hoai Duc district), the work of preventing drought in the spring crop is also being highly focused. 26 field units with a capacity of 1,000m3/hour each are operated at maximum capacity by Dan Hoai Irrigation Enterprise (Day River Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited).
Director of Dan Hoai Irrigation Enterprise Nguyen Hai Truong said that along with Ba Giang field pumping station, the unit is currently monitoring the water level of the Red River to flexibly operate 3 generators, each with a capacity of 8,000m3/hour at Dan Hoai pumping station, to make the most of the water discharged from hydroelectric reservoirs.
According to the monitoring of the Hanoi Department of Irrigation and Disaster Prevention, since the Lunar New Year of At Ty until now, hundreds of pumping stations along the main river system and inland rivers have been maintained by irrigation enterprises to operate at maximum capacity to meet the task of getting water for spring crop cultivation.
Don't waste water
In the 2025 Spring crop, Hanoi is expected to cultivate nearly 80,000 hectares of rice. This is the largest crop of the year to ensure food security for the people of the capital. Therefore, the city pays special attention to drought prevention work and closely directs it, with the determination not to let there be a shortage of water for agricultural production.
Deputy Head of the Hanoi Irrigation and Disaster Prevention Sub-Department, Dao Quang Khai, said that with the proactiveness and positivity of irrigation enterprises, up to now, the area of spring rice cultivation in the whole city with sufficient water has reached nearly 60,000 hectares, equivalent to about 70% of the total planned production area. Currently, many localities have basically had enough water for spring cultivation such as: Ung Hoa, Phu Xuyen, My Duc, Chuong My...
Along with the task of water collection, the agricultural sector also actively coordinates with localities to propagate, mobilize, and guide people to go to the fields to sow spring rice; to take water, prepare the land, flood, and sow spring rice; not to lose or waste production water resources.
According to statistics, the area of land used for the 2025 Spring crop in Hanoi has reached more than 50% of the entire crop plan. More than 20,000 hectares of rice fields have been covered with green young rice, equivalent to about 23% of the total cultivated area for the entire crop.
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Van Quyen, the work of taking water for the 2025 Spring rice crop is basically going smoothly. The progress of taking water and planting the 2025 Spring crop in the city is guaranteed according to plan. This is thanks to the system of irrigation works that have been invested in and upgraded by Hanoi City and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Also according to the representative of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the city strives to complete the 2025 Spring crop planting before February 28, 2025. Therefore, in the coming days, it is recommended that irrigation enterprises focus highly on the "sprint" phase to fight drought in the Spring crop. For localities, continue to mobilize people to go to the fields to sow and plant all the areas, ensuring the right time frame.
“Along with continuing to operate irrigation works at maximum capacity to provide water, Hanoi needs to direct the agricultural sector to coordinate with localities to strengthen the reinforcement of regional and field banks, ensuring to avoid water loss for areas that have been provided with enough water and to store water to serve the irrigation needs of spring rice…” - Deputy Director of the Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Hong Khanh .
