Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, leaders of Hoi An City and many local people.

Exactly 60 years ago, on the night of September 27, 1964, implementing the policy of destroying evil, destroying the enemy, and expanding the liberated area of ​​the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, under the leadership of the Hoi An Party Committee and the Cam Thanh Commune Party Cell, the people of Cam Thanh rose up in unison.

Within 30 minutes, with only coconut shell guns in hand, the uprising in Cam Thanh achieved complete victory. On the night of September 27, the people of Cam Thanh commune gathered at Thanh Nhut communal house to attend a rally to declare Cam Thanh liberated.

The liberation of Cam Thanh was not only significant for the local army and people but also had strategic significance for the revolutionary movement of Hoi An. Cam Thanh became a base, both the front and the rear of Hoi An during more than 10 years of resistance against the US.

Reading a speech at the ceremony, Mr. Bui Minh Thuan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Cam Thanh commune said that there were mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, and husbands who participated in the uprising night who are no longer here, they have passed away.

And at today’s commemoration, there are comrades, witnesses of the uprising day. Over time, they now have wrinkled skin and gray hair, shaky legs and carry wounds and torture from the enemy.

“The 60th anniversary is also an opportunity for us to look back at the past, so that we can better understand and appreciate the heroic history of this land that our ancestors built, protected and preserved.

The 60th anniversary is also an opportunity for us to show gratitude to our predecessors, seniors, revolutionary veterans, compatriots and comrades who sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation," said Mr. Thuan.

Summing up the two resistance wars, the whole Cam Thanh commune had 719 martyrs, nearly 200 wounded and sick soldiers, 183 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 10 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, 1,532 people awarded medals of various types, and more than 30 people were victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.

In recognition of the great contributions and outstanding achievements of the army and people of Cam Thanh, on December 20, 1994, the President signed a decision to award the noble title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the cadres, army and people of Cam Thanh.

After 60 years since the uprising, Cam Thanh commune has made spectacular changes. The development of tourism has brought great benefits to the local community, creating welcome changes, significantly improving people's lives.

In 2023 alone, total revenue from tourism and service activities will reach about 465 billion VND. Of which, revenue from ticket sales will reach 27.5 billion VND, revenue from accommodation activities will reach more than 71.8 billion VND, and revenue from transportation activities will reach about 91.9 billion VND.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Anh - Secretary of Hoi An City Party Committee said that in the past, when mentioning Cam Thanh, everyone had the same thought that it was a poor countryside, with sour fields and salty water, full of hardship. But today, it is a dynamic countryside, a famous tourist destination that cannot be missed when visitors come to Hoi An.

"Only when placed in the conditions and circumstances of Cam Thanh can we understand the efforts, hard work and hardships that the Party Committee and people of Cam Thanh have overcome; from there, we can appreciate more deeply the value and great significance of the achievements that have been made" - Mr. Tran Anh said.
