At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the strong and extensive development of the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Partnership, especially in economics, trade and investment. Appreciating the effectiveness of the Political Consultation mechanism, the Minister suggested continuing to promote the important role of this mechanism in reviewing and proposing directions for cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well as discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern; at the same time, strengthening cooperation between functional units of the two Ministries.
Permanent Deputy Minister Albert Chua pledged to coordinate effectively to implement the results achieved during the visits of the two countries' senior leaders. The Deputy Minister also affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of Singapore in the region; more and more Singaporean enterprises are interested in and want to expand their investment and business in Vietnam.
The Deputy Minister also supported the need for Vietnam and Singapore to continue to closely coordinate to maintain solidarity and the central role of ASEAN, agreed to increase consultation and exchange at regional and international forums, as well as promote cooperation between functional units of the two countries' Foreign Ministries...
*Earlier on the same day, in Hanoi, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet and Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore Albert Chua co-chaired the 15th Session of the Vietnam-Singapore Political Consultation.
The two sides focused on discussing progress and directions to promote the implementation of agreements between the two countries' senior leaders in key areas, especially after the official visit to Singapore (February 2023) by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The two sides were pleased with the remarkable achievements in trade and investment cooperation. Singapore's investment in Vietnam reached 71.3 billion USD with 3,100 projects, ranking first among ASEAN countries and fourth in total foreign investment in Vietnam.
The two sides affirmed to closely coordinate to promote connectivity, enhance cooperation, prepare well for high-level delegation exchanges and all-level delegation exchanges, organize practical activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership in 2023; at the same time, promote the bridging role of the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs in promoting the implementation of the Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership, towards the goal of sustainable growth and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The two sides agreed to maintain consultations and actively coordinate with other member countries to promote ASEAN solidarity and sustainable development; improve and innovate working methods towards a dynamic, flexible, effective ASEAN worthy of being the central force, leading regional processes, and effectively contributing to peace, stability and development in the region.
Discussing the international and regional situation, the two Deputy Ministers agreed that multilateralism, equal relations, balance of interests, and harmony in approaches between countries are prerequisites for peace and stability. The two sides also shared the determination to build the East Sea into a sea of peace, cooperation and development; together with ASEAN countries, seriously and fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), striving to soon reach an effective and efficient Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The two sides agreed to hold the 16th Political Consultation between the two countries' Foreign Ministries in Singapore in 2024.
