Every year-end, traders from all over transport ornamental plants to gather on both sides of Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (Ha Tinh City) to sell. This year, ornamental plants on the street are quite diverse, with many varieties such as peach, kumquat, grapefruit, apricot, etc., so people have many options to buy for Tet.
Realizing the bustling market for buying and selling ornamental plants, many freelance workers have "seized" the opportunity to work as ornamental plant transporters. Although this job only lasts about 10 days, it also helps them earn extra income to spend during Tet.

Mr. Ho Hai Quang (residing in Luu Vinh Son commune, Thach Ha district) said that he usually works as a freelancer. At the end of the year, he realized that people had a great need to buy ornamental plants while they did not have the means to transport the plants home, so he came up with the idea of transporting ornamental plants for Tet to earn income for the past 2 years.
Every year, from around December 20th, he pulls his cart to the streets where ornamental plants are sold to carry ornamental plants for people. The price for each trip depends on the distance and the size of the tree. The average price for each trip ranges from 150,000 to 200,000 VND.
“Every day I go to town to deliver ornamental plants from 6am and return home at around 11pm. These days I make 6-7 trips, earning about 1 million VND/day,” Mr. Quang shared honestly.

Mr. Nguyen Luong (58 years old, living in Ha Tinh city) said that he used to be a construction worker. He had free time near Tet so he pulled his cart out to the streets to transport ornamental plants to earn extra income.
According to Mr. Luong, the job of transporting ornamental plants is not as tiring as that of a bricklayer. However, this job mainly focuses on about 10 days before Tet, so many people in this job have to work both day and night.
“I am old so I make about 3-4 trips a day, earning about 500,000 VND a day. If I work regularly from now until the 29th of Tet, I will have enough money to spend,” said Mr. Luong.
