Thai PBS World reported that the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) destroyer HTMS Khirirat was accidentally hit by artillery fire from another nearby naval ship today, March 14.
The incident occurred at around 11:50 a.m. today, when the HTMS Khirirat was anchored at Laem Thian Pier of Sattahip Naval Base (Chon Buri Province). The ship was hit in the rear and caught fire.
According to the Bangkok Post , initial reports said three naval officers were injured after ammunition in a gun mounted at the front of the HTMS Chonburi's hull accidentally fired.

Firefighters responded quickly to bring the fire under control on the warship. Later reports said one of the three officers was in critical condition.
HTMS Khirirat has served the Royal Thai Navy for more than 40 years, belonging to the 1st Frigate Fleet, Fleet Operations Command.
HTMS Chonburi completed the exercise on March 13 and returned to base for repairs, as one of the ship's guns malfunctioned during operations, with an unused bullet still stuck in the barrel, according to the Bangkok Post.
HTMS Chonburi is 213 m long, 28 m wide, with a maximum speed of 46.3 km/h. The ship can withstand rough seas and can accommodate up to 600 crew members.
