Implementing the plan of the Provincial People's Committee on organizing the Sports Festival at all levels and the 9th Quang Tri Provincial Sports Festival, 2025 - 2026, right from the first days of the spring of At Ty - 2025, localities in the province have enthusiastically organized many sports tournaments in the official competition program of the festival; creating a useful and attractive playground for Tet, attracting a large number of people from all walks of life to participate in the competition and cheer. Spring Competition
On the morning of February 1 (the 4th day of Tet), the Vinh Linh District Sports and Training Center became bustling and exciting with the cheers and wholehearted support of hundreds of people for the players competing in the 28th Traditional Volleyball Tournament to celebrate the Party and celebrate spring organized by Ho Xa town. The tournament took place over 2 days, February 1 and 2, gathering 168 male and female athletes from 8 men's volleyball teams and 6 women's volleyball teams.

Vice Chairman of Ho Xa Town People's Committee Tran Thanh Duong said: "The Ho Xa Town Volleyball Tournament is regularly held during Tet and this year it was included in the Ho Xa Town Sports Festival. This year's tournament has high professional quality as the teams have been well prepared in all aspects. The number of people not only in the town but also in many neighboring localities came to watch and cheer, increasing the attraction of the tournament in the first days of the new year. After the success of the volleyball tournament, we continued to organize tug of war, stick pushing, chess and athletics tournaments.
Through these tournaments, the town selects outstanding athletes for the town team to participate in the 10th Vinh Linh District Sports Festival with the determination to maintain the top position of the whole delegation". After Ho Xa town, many other localities such as Cua Tung town, Vinh Tu commune... have chosen volleyball as the "opening" sport for the Sports Festival. Organizing volleyball tournaments in early spring has created a high consensus among each Vinh Linh resident when meeting the right enjoyment needs, at the same time creating an important foundation for Vinh Linh volleyball to affirm its position throughout the province.
To create a joyful and exciting spring atmosphere and promote the spirit of physical training, on the morning of February 2 (the 5th day of Tet), Dong Le Ward, Dong Ha City organized the Stick Pushing and Chess Competition, Dong Le Ward Sports Festival 2025 with more than 70 male and female athletes of different ages participating in the competition. This is the first time Dong Le Ward has included chess in the official competition at the Sports Festival. More than 30 "young" athletes competing in 3 groups: U8 group, Open group and female group brought a "new breeze" to the ward sports festival.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chien, a civil servant of Dong Le Ward's Culture and Society, said that in addition to the two sports of pole pushing and chess, the Dong Le Ward Sports Festival also organized competitions in athletics, cross-country, tug of war and football. Currently, Dong Le Ward has done well in the preparations to successfully organize the Sports Festival according to the set plan.
Steady steps to reach far
Due to the importance of the congress held every 4 years, the first competitions of the grassroots level Sports Festival have received much attention from localities throughout the province. In particular, the focus has been on investing in facilities, improving expertise and professionalism in organizing and managing competitions for sports officials...; villages and neighborhoods have made good preparations in terms of personnel, training organization, competition costumes... This is an important basis contributing to improving the quality of the first competitions of the district, town and city level Sports Festival.

In the early days of spring, the District Sports Festival officially kicked off, notably Gio Linh district organized chess, table tennis and billiards tournaments; Trieu Phong district organized chess tournaments; Quang Tri town organized volleyball and tug of war tournaments; Dong Ha city organized chess and tug of war tournaments... Director of Dong Ha City's Center for Culture, Information and Sports Hoang Thanh Su said: From the end of 2024, the City's Center for Culture, Information and Sports will proactively coordinate with relevant departments of the province and city to organize training for specialized sports officials of wards, agencies and units on expertise, skills, organization, guidance on planning, regulations and management of competition contents in the Sports Festival program at the grassroots level.
Since the 4th day of Tet, many wards in the city have successfully organized the first competitions of the Ward Sports Festival such as stick pushing, football, Chinese chess... The 10th Dong Ha City Sports Festival - 2025 will take place from January 2025 and end before December 31, 2025 with 11 sports. On February 5, Dong Ha City organized competitions in 2 sports: Chinese chess and stick pushing; gathering nearly 150 athletes to participate.
According to the assessment, the professional quality of these two sports is quite high; the athletes compete seriously. “After this smooth start, the city will continue to organize the remaining 9 sports according to the plan, at the same time invest in the selection, training and education of excellent athletes of the city team to participate in the Sports Festival with the highest spirit and determination to maintain the No. 1 position in the province,” said Mr. Su.
The grassroots sports festival officially kicked off across the province, making the Tet sports scene more exciting and attractive; meeting the people's needs for enjoyment, entertainment and recreation; and at the same time contributing to the steady development of the mass sports movement. Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Phan Van Hoa said that the Sports Festival at all levels is an activity of great political and social significance in the whole province, creating a profound change in the awareness and actions of all levels, sectors and the whole society about the position, role and importance of sports in improving people's health and physical strength.
In the past time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has performed well its assigned functions and tasks; monitored, urged and inspected the implementation of the plan and organization of the grassroots Sports Festival; directed and supported localities to organize the festival according to plan. Specifically, the Sports Festival at commune, ward and town levels organizes competitions in 5 or more sports, ending before June 30, 2025; the Sports Festival at district, town and city levels organizes competitions in 10 or more sports, ending before December 31, 2025; the Provincial Sports Festival organizes competitions in 16 sports, ending before April 30, 2026.
“This is also an opportunity to evaluate the results of the sports movement of localities and units; continue to maintain and promote the Campaign “All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho”; preserve and promote modern sports, ethnic sports and traditional folk games in the locality; discover and select athletes with outstanding achievements to contribute to the development of high-performance sports for the locality, unit and the country”, said Mr. Hoa.
