With dynamism, creativity, daring to think and dare to do, young architect Dang Ngoc Trung, ward 8, Phu Yen town has successfully started a business from household wooden products and inspired many young people in the area to start a business.
We visited Mr. Trung at the ON Family Furniture Cooperative's wooden furniture factory. He was editing the design drawings of the new products and reminding members to be careful and meticulous with each product before packing and shipping it to customers.
Sharing about the decision to open a wooden household production workshop, Mr. Trung said: After graduating from Hanoi University of Architecture, I was accepted to work at Thach That Export Wooden Furniture Company (Hanoi). Through work, I learned, gained a lot of experience and became more and more passionate about wooden furniture; so I cherished the idea of establishing a wooden furniture production facility in the locality, creating kitchenware products, food containers from durable, beautiful, environmentally friendly wood, with abundant, available raw materials...
Realizing that idea, in 2017, Mr. Trung returned to his hometown and started making simple products such as bowls, chopsticks, spoons, and cutting boards from longan, lychee, and tamarind wood available in his family's garden. When he first started, the workshop was small in scale, lacking capital to invest in machines and equipment, and the products he made were mainly based on orders from relatives and some people in the commune.
Thanks to focusing on improving quality and constantly researching, learning, and creating products that suit consumer tastes, in just a short time, Mr. Trung's production facility has attracted many customers inside and outside the commune to come and place orders.
In 2020, he invested 500 million VND to expand the workshop, buy more modern machinery and raw materials to serve production needs. At the same time, he cooperated with 7 members who are wood processing and manufacturing workshops to establish the ON Family Wooden Furniture Cooperative. Producing many products with diverse beautiful designs and high quality; each month, his production facility makes more than 5,000 wooden products for food, food, cooking, such as chopsticks, cutting boards, trays, ladles, spoons, drinking cups, bowls, plates from wood...
Talking about the products of the cooperative, Mr. Trung shared: The wooden products of the cooperative have the characteristics of not causing odor and not affecting the taste of food when cooking, containing food and drinks, thanks to which the products of the cooperative are increasingly sought after by many people. Not only serving the people in the area, but currently, the cooperative has signed contracts to consume products in a number of large supermarkets in the province, Hanoi and some southern provinces; restaurants, eateries, souvenir shops, wooden furniture...
In addition, the production facility of On Family Furniture Cooperative also creates jobs for 8-12 young workers in difficult circumstances in the locality, with an average salary of about 3-4 million VND/month. Ms. Lo Thi Nhu Quynh, Huy Ha commune, working at the Cooperative, said: The stages of making products are quite meticulous, thanks to Mr. Trung's guidance, we can quickly approach the work and create quality products. During the working process, the Cooperative always pays attention to labor safety by providing protective gear and reminding us to comply with regulations when operating machinery.
To expand the consumption market, the cooperative uses social networks, websites, prints its own catalogs and leaflets to promote and reach customers inside and outside the province. In 2022, the wooden cup products of On Family Furniture Cooperative were assessed by the People's Committee of Son La province to meet the quality standards of 4-star OCOP products. The revenue and profit of the facility are constantly increasing, after deducting all expenses, the profit reaches over 120 million VND/year.
Secretary of Phu Yen District Youth Union Cam Vinh Tri said: ON Family Furniture Cooperative of union member Dang Ngoc Trung is one of the successful start-up models in recent times. The production facility of the Cooperative has created jobs for many local youth. This is also a model that the District Youth Union highly appreciates and continues to accompany and support in the process of starting a business and establishing a career in their hometown.
Sharing about his plans for the future, Mr. Trung said: For this green product line, the market is quite open domestically and internationally, so we want to expand the market further, create more new products. Along with that, train more local workers so that people have jobs.
With passion, dynamism, creativity, and constantly seeking to learn new ways of doing things, young architect Dang Ngoc Trung not only develops the economy for himself and his family, but also contributes to vocational training, creating jobs for young people, and contributing to the local socio-economic development.
