Keeping a close watch on the area, Phu Yen District Police regularly coordinate with local authorities and mass organizations to propagate and mobilize people to participate in preventing and combating crimes and drug abuse; deploy plans to resolutely combat drug crimes, contributing to maintaining security and order in the area.
Although not a complex area of drug crimes, the rate of drug crimes and drug addicts is tending to be younger, mainly under the age of 35. At the same time, there have been a number of cases of drug trafficking in large quantities, with reckless and reckless subjects fighting back against the authorities when being arrested. Drugs are transported into the area from neighboring districts, especially the Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir area, the main types of drugs are synthetic drugs, heroin, and some other types of drugs.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Hung Manh, Deputy Head of Phu Yen District Police, said: Through assessing the security and order situation and drug crime activities, the District Police have deployed many preventive and combative measures, focusing on coordinating with agencies, mass organizations, communes and towns to propagate and mobilize people to actively detect and denounce subjects related to drugs. Directing the Police of 27 communes and towns to coordinate with village police officers to regularly patrol, stay close to the area, promptly detect and thoroughly handle cases arising at establishments related to drugs, not allowing the formation of hot spots.
In addition, the district police have launched high-profile campaigns to crack down on all types of crimes, and coordinated with communes and towns to regularly mobilize people to participate in the movement "All people protect national security". Strengthen reconnaissance and surveillance in mountainous communes and Hoa Binh hydropower reservoir areas, where drug crimes are likely to arise, such as: Suoi To, Da Do, Bac Phong, Kim Bon... Maintain effective operations of inter-family self-governing groups on security and order, and people's security teams in 207 villages and sub-regions.
In the past 7 months, the Phu Yen District Police's professional teams discovered, arrested, and handled 146 cases, 164 subjects illegally storing, trading, and using drugs. The seized evidence included 143.755 grams of heroin and 119 synthetic drug pills. The District Police Investigation Agency prosecuted 38 drug cases, involving 52 defendants. The authorities coordinated to prepare a file requesting the District People's Court to issue a decision to apply administrative measures, sending 70 cases to compulsory drug rehabilitation facilities.
Kim Bon is a commune with complex terrain, which is a favorable condition for drug criminals to operate. Every year, the commune directs the villages to integrate drug prevention propaganda into village meetings; organizes the signing of commitments to build villages and families free of drugs.
Mr. Ban Van Chau, Chairman of Kim Bon Commune People's Committee, said: The Commune People's Committee has coordinated with the Commune Police and inter-family self-management groups on security and order, and the Youth Union force to mobilize people to detect and denounce subjects related to drugs. Strengthen patrols and controls, promptly detect suspected cases related to drugs to have decisive measures to handle, especially not allowing subjects to smuggle drugs into the area. Since the beginning of the year, Kim Bon Commune Police have coordinated with the District Police to detect and arrest 5 cases of 6 subjects related to drugs, seizing more than 10 grams of drugs. The whole commune has about 150 drug addicts with management records; the commune has no drug hotspots.
In addition to the achieved results, the work of preventing and combating drugs in Phu Yen district still faces many difficulties, because in addition to old drugs such as opium, heroin, cocaine... In the area, many new types of drugs have appeared, such as marijuana candy, paper stamps, the evil of sniffing "glue", the trend of smoking "pin" (also known as smoking "Canadian tobacco") is developing quite complicatedly. The subjects who are easily affected and influenced by these new types of drugs are mostly teenagers.
Fiercely fighting against drug crimes, Phu Yen District Police increased its forces to closely monitor the area to detect the circulation, use and illegal transportation of drugs. Directed the Commune Police force to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to detect and denounce drug crimes. Coordinated with schools to organize extracurricular activities to educate and propagate drug prevention, helping students have full awareness and know how to prevent and avoid addictive substances such as electronic cigarettes, shisha, laughing gas... Struggling to completely resolve crime spots and groups and social evils, not allowing hot spots to form. Maintaining political security, social order and safety in the area, protecting a peaceful life for the people.
