Startups contribute to creating vitality for the country
On the afternoon of April 17, 2024, the Startup Research Institute was officially launched to carry out the mission of connecting Vietnam to have more businesses, accompanying startups to overcome difficulties, turn challenges into opportunities and develop sustainably.
At the launching ceremony of the Institute of Entrepreneurship Research, Dr. Dinh Viet Hoa - Chairman of the National Entrepreneurship Association said that the entrepreneurial spirit is growing strongly. 10 years ago, on average, only about 50,000-60,000 businesses were formed each year. However, in the past 5 years, the number of businesses has grown strongly and in 2023 alone, nearly 200,000 businesses were newly established.
"This shows the desire to grow and develop of entrepreneurs" - Dr. Dinh Viet Hoa said.
Dr. Vu Tien Loc - Honorary President of the National Startup Association emphasized: Middle income is the enemy of development. Bringing the country out of the middle income trap is a great mission for the youth and startups are an opportunity to implement reforms.
“Startups are leading the second wave of reform. If the first wave of reform was to create jobs and lift the country out of poverty, the second wave of reform is innovation associated with modern knowledge. The innovation journey has brought Vietnam annual growth, but we must reconsider the quality of growth… Low labor productivity, low added value, low ICOR index… these are limitations but also room for growth and development” – Dr. Vu Tien Loc said.
According to Dr. Vu Tien Loc, starting a business is a long, sustainable journey to create vitality for the country.
People are at the heart of entrepreneurship
According to Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung - Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship Research, entrepreneurship is a subject of science and must be implemented long-term and sustainably, not a seasonal movement.
"Starting a business is not just about starting but also about the whole process and the focus is on people, thereby providing the entrepreneur with a full and comprehensive scientific background. Therefore, the first factor of starting a business is scientific research, so starting a business must also be associated with the second important factor which is training along with many other important factors" - Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung said.
The Government has many programs on startups. In particular, the Project 844 movement has been and is being strongly implemented by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs have programs to support students, youth, and women in starting businesses.
The National Startup Association was assigned by the Ministry of Science and Technology to act as a bridge to connect Vietnam with more businesses, to accompany businesses and business founders so that startups can face less difficulties and produce and do business effectively.
"This is the important mission of the Association and also the reason why the Association decided to establish the Startup Research Institute to accompany startups to overcome challenges, difficulties and develop sustainably in the future," Mr. Hoa emphasized.
Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung affirmed that it is necessary to clearly see the challenges of startups because Vietnam is lagging behind many countries. Therefore, international cooperation is the key to learning from other countries' experiences, enriching knowledge, and gaining support and assistance from advanced countries for startups to develop sustainably and with quality.
