According to Thai government spokesman Chai Wacharonke, the number of visitors to the Land of Smiles will increase further thanks to the government's visa-free policy. Currently, visitors from 64 countries can enter the country visa-free for 30 days, after which they can apply for an extension of their stay.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to welcome 25-28 million foreign visitors this year, generating revenue of about 2,160 trillion baht (more than 60 billion USD).
Last year, Thailand welcomed 11.5 million international visitors, mainly late in the year after Covid-19 pandemic precautions were lifted.
Meanwhile, a new report from the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism shows that in the first nine months of 2023, the country attracted 3.92 million international tourists, an increase of 211% over the same period last year.
Thailand topped the list of international arrivals to the land of pagodas, followed by Vietnam and China, with increases of 189%, 156% and 549% respectively. About 1.34 million international visitors arrived in Cambodia by air (up 186%) and 2.58 million by land and water (up 224%).

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting the Cambodian economy, alongside garment and footwear exports, tourism, agriculture, construction and real estate.
In Vietnam, in October 2023 alone, the number of international visitors exceeded 1.11 million, up 5.5% over the previous month and 2.3 times higher than the same period last year. In the past 10 months, the whole industry welcomed 10 million international visitors, up 4.2 times over the same period last year. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 582.6 trillion.
The above positive figures create solid hope for the Vietnamese tourism industry to achieve the goal of welcoming 12-13 million international visitors in 2023.
