Tehran on October 26 accused Israel of using Iraqi airspace to carry out a series of attacks on multiple locations in Iran that morning.
Iran's mission to the United Nations wrote on social network X, saying that Israeli fighter jets attacked Iranian radars and military sites from Iraqi airspace, about 110 km from the Iranian border.
The fighter jet that the Israeli military said was used in the attack on Iran on October 26.
According to CNN on October 26, Iran also blamed the US for colluding with Israel in the attack, claiming that Iraqi airspace was under the control and coordination of the US military. Washington affirmed that it had been informed by Israel about the plan to attack Iran but was not directly involved in the incident.
Iraqi officials have yet to respond to the information. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not provide further details beyond previous statements that dozens of Israeli aircraft had participated in the attack on Iran on the morning of October 26, targeting targets about 1,600 km from Israel.
The Israeli military added that the attack hit several Iranian S-300 air defense systems, which were strategically located. The IDF did not provide details on the damage caused in the Iranian attack, while Tehran said the Israeli military only caused limited damage. IRNA reported on October 26 that at least four Iranian soldiers, all working for the air defense force, were killed in the attack.
US President Joe Biden said on October 26 that “Israel does not appear to have hit anything other than military targets.” Washington wants to strike a balance between supporting Israel’s right to self-defense and urging Tel Aviv to carefully select targets for its attack on Iran to avoid escalating tensions.
“I hope this is the end,” Biden told reporters about the Israeli attack, according to The Times of Israel .
