According to Android Authority , Apple has long offered magnetic-based wireless charging through the company’s proprietary MagSafe solution. The iPhone 15 series will still offer MagSafe to users, but Apple is also about to bring the popular Qi2 wireless charging standard to its latest handsets.
Now, as the Cupertino giant prepares to roll out a software update through iOS 17.2, the Qi2 charging standard will also come to older models like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 may use Qi2 wireless charging standard
Apple says the upcoming iOS 17.2 will "bring Qi2 charger support to all iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models." This will allow older iPhone users to take advantage of up to 15W wireless charging speeds with Qi2 wireless charging accessories without upgrading to the iPhone 15.
Speaking of Qi2, this is the next version of the popular Qi wireless charging standard. Like Apple's proprietary MagSafe charging system, Qi2 enables magnetic wireless charging with magnetic adhesion and a more powerful 15W charging capacity.
According to the Wireless Power Consortium, Qi2 wireless chargers will be available by the holiday season. There are already more than 100 devices that have been tested or are awaiting Qi2 certification before going on sale. The first brands to start selling Qi2 accessories will be Anker, Mophie, and Belkin.
