Ross Young, CEO of display market research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), said the iPhone 16 Pro series launched in 2024 will have the largest screen ever.

While not revealing specific sizes, Young commented “almost” under a tweet predicting the iPhone 16 Pro to have a 6.4-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max (or Ultra) uses a 6.9-inch display.

Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 16 duo will still retain the 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes. Based on rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro's screen size will be slightly larger than the old size.

According to 9to5Mac, Ross Young is one of the most reputable leakers thanks to his relationship with Apple's display supply chain. However, it is too early to talk about the iPhone 16 because Apple's plans can change.

In addition to the screen size, rumors say at least one model in the iPhone 16 lineup will feature under-display Face ID, eliminating the notch.

The Elec news site once rumored that this change would appear on the iPhone 15 Pro. However, according to Ross Young, Face ID under the screen will only be equipped as early as the iPhone 16.

“We confirm again that the under-display infrared system will not appear on the iPhone until 2024, which is the iPhone 16. However, we must start development and submit samples now,” Young said.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shares the same view, saying that under-screen Face ID will appear on “high-end” iPhone 16 models. He even predicts that the front camera will be under the screen.

“I think the true full-screen iPhone will be launched in 2024. The high-end model in 2024 will be equipped with a front camera and Face ID under the screen. Since low-light conditions affect photo quality, algorithms and processing sensors are very important to improve the quality,” Kuo added.

Under-screen cameras have been applied on some Android smartphones, but the quality is not highly appreciated. That is why most high-end devices today still use traditional selfie cameras in the form of a round hole.
