Many fires have serious consequences and human losses because the victims do not know how to escape when a fire occurs, such as: the fire at a house combined with a business at No. 207, Dinh Cong Street, Hanoi City, which occurred on June 16, 2024, killing 4 people; the fire at a villa at Lane 379, Duong Tu Minh Street, Tan Long Ward, Thai Nguyen City, which occurred in the early morning of June 26, 2024, killing 2 people...

To minimize damage to people and property caused by fire and explosion, Bao Yen District Police provide instructions on how to escape when a fire or explosion occurs as follows:
- Household members need to clearly understand the escape route on the first floor, the emergency exit (second exit) of the house, the location of keys and demolition tools in the house; in production and business areas, it is necessary to disseminate to workers and residents in the house the rules, escape measures, identification of escape instructions (signs or escape lights), escape instructions diagrams to promptly escape, rescue and salvage when a fire or explosion occurs.
- When a fire or explosion occurs and it is determined that the initial fire fighting equipment cannot extinguish it, then:
+ Calmly consider, shout the alarm to let all people in the house know to quickly move out through the safe escape route, through the roof, balcony, window to the next house or escape down by rope ladder (if available) when unable to escape through the exit on the first floor. At the same time, immediately notify the fire police and rescue at phone number 114.
+ During the move, use a wet towel to cover your mouth and nose, bend low to avoid the risk of smoke inhalation, follow the wall and move to a safe place.
+ In case the main door is engulfed in fire, quickly find and open another escape route (second escape route) through the balcony, window, terrace to the house next door, escape down by rope ladder or arrange an escape route to the roof (if the roof is made of roofing panels); absolutely do not hide in the room or bathroom. In case there is no other escape route, use a wet blanket, cover yourself tightly, and try to escape through the fire as quickly as possible.
+ In case the escape route and escape route are contaminated with smoke or fire and you cannot escape from the room through the stairs or main door; quickly use cloth or tape to plug and seal the door gap to prevent smoke or toxic gas from entering the room you are in, move to the balcony to signal the fire prevention and fighting force for timely rescue.

To proactively implement fire prevention, fire fighting and rescue work, each person must fully understand the dangers of fire and explosion at workplaces and residences where fire and explosion may occur and take preventive measures.
Regularly manage, check and safely use fire sources, heat sources and other flammable substances at all times and in all places; know how to handle fires promptly when they occur.
Regularly self-check fire prevention and fighting work, detect and immediately fix loopholes and shortcomings in fire prevention and fighting at facilities and houses to minimize the conditions for fire and explosion; equip protective equipment and rescue equipment (such as rope ladders, gas masks, protective clothing, sledgehammers, pliers, etc.) to proactively handle fire and explosion situations; demolish tiger cages and billboards blocking escape routes, etc.
