(To Quoc) - Heavy rain caused many areas and some schools in Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri province) to be flooded, students were given a day off to ensure safety.
On the morning of October 28, information from the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri province) said that about 18,700 students at 52 schools in the district were given a day off this morning due to flooding.
Accordingly, due to the influence of storm No. 6, on the morning of October 28, there was rain in Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri). Rising floodwaters caused provincial road 574, inter-commune roads, etc. to be flooded. Some roads such as the main road connecting the center of Vinh Linh district to Vinh O commune were eroded and severely damaged, making traffic difficult.
Heavy rain also caused localized flooding at some schools in Vinh Linh district. By this morning, the water had receded in many places, but some schools in Vinh Son commune, Hien Thanh commune (Vinh Linh district)... were still flooded from 0.4 - 0.5m.
Immediately after the flood water gradually receded, some schools in Vinh Linh district are organizing to clean up classrooms and repair damage to facilities with the motto "where the water recedes, clean up there" to ensure safety and hygiene to welcome students back to school soon.
Previously, to ensure the safety of students, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri sent an official dispatch to schools requesting them to respond to floods and storm No. 6. The dispatch requested that schools closely and promptly monitor forecasts and warnings of storm No. 6 and other dangerous weather conditions that may occur in the coming days; promptly and fully inform teachers and students to proactively take preventive measures to minimize damage.
Depending on the development of storms and heavy rains in each locality, schools and centers under the Department of Education and Training report and propose to the Department's leaders to decide whether to let preschool children, students, and trainees of affiliated units take time off from school. The Department of Education and Training of districts, towns, and cities coordinates with schools in the locality to advise the Chairman of the District People's Committee to decide whether to let preschool children, primary and secondary school students of schools in the locality take time off from school.
Mr. Thai Van Thanh, Chairman of Vinh Linh District People's Committee informed that due to the impact of storm No. 6, since the night of October 26, Vinh Linh district has had heavy rain, strong winds, and rapid rising of river water levels, causing widespread flooding, inundating hundreds of houses. The district has evacuated 730 people to safety. Currently, the rain has stopped in the area and floodwaters have begun to recede. Localities are conducting detailed damage statistics.
