Many elementary school students in District 7 suspected of food poisoning after lunch

On the evening of April 9 and morning of April 10, many students at Vo Thi Sau Primary School, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City suffered from stomachaches and vomiting, suspected to be due to food poisoning after having lunch at school on April 9.

On the afternoon of April 10, answering a reporter from Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Dang Nguyen Thinh - Head of the Department of Education and Training of District 7, Ho Chi Minh City - said that the situation of students suspected of food poisoning at Vo Thi Sau Primary School has stabilized.

Authorities are currently taking samples to find the cause of the stomachache and vomiting.

On the same afternoon, Mr. Phan Thanh Phong - principal of Vo Thi Sau Primary School - confirmed that many students at the school were reported by their parents to have stomachaches and vomiting on the evening of April 9.

Parents suspected that the student had a stomachache after eating lunch at school, because the student studied and ate lunch at school all day.

On the evening of April 9, the school received information from the school's parent representative committee that parents of students in classes 3/3, 3/4, and 3/5 reported that some children had stomachaches and vomiting.

On the morning of April 10, the school's medical department counted and heard reports from homeroom teachers. There were 21 students absent from school with the following reasons: stomachache, vomiting, and diarrhea since the night of April 9. Of these, 7 children were examined at the hospital and sent home for care and monitoring. Currently, the situation of the 21 children is more stable.

Also on the morning of April 10, a student in grade 3/6 vomited so his family took him to the doctor and the doctor admitted him to the hospital for observation. At noon that same day, there was a case of a student having a stomachache so the school took him to the hospital for examination and he is currently in the hospital.

According to Mr. Phong, the school uses industrial catering to serve meals for boarding students.

Students say eat rice chicken wings, sour soup

On the afternoon of April 10, Mr. Nguyen The Vu - Director of District 7 Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City - said that at noon of the same day, District 7 Hospital admitted a student from Vo Thi Sau Primary School, District 7, with a mild fever and vomiting. The patient was given IV fluids and the child has stopped vomiting and has no fever.

Earlier on the evening of April 9, District 7 Hospital also admitted a student from Vo Thi Sau Primary School in District 7 in a similar condition. However, this student also has asthma so he is still hospitalized for monitoring.

Both of these children said that they had previously eaten lunch at school, which included chicken wings and sour soup.
