Due to the impact of heat and drought, hydroelectric reservoirs are seriously lacking water. As of May 11, 2023, 11/47 large hydroelectric reservoirs nationwide have reached or are near dead water level; 16 reservoirs have water levels lower than the minimum water level of the inter-reservoir operation process. Of which, 12/12 large hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern region have the lowest water flow in the past 100 years, from the beginning of April until now, the water level in the reservoirs has only reached below 50%, some reservoirs have only reached 20% compared to the average of many years. While the power source is lacking, the demand for electricity is increasing, the risk of incidents causing unsafety to the power grid system.
