Hanoi students return to school as early as August 21

Based on the 2023-2024 school year plan framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has developed a plan for preschool and primary school students to return to school as early as August 28, while grade 1 students will return to school as early as August 21.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also stipulates that the opening day will be held uniformly throughout the city on September 5. Schools will finish the first semester before January 15, 2024, complete the second semester education plan before May 25, 2024, and end the school year before May 31, 2024.

Primary and secondary schools will consider recognizing graduation before June 30, 2024, and complete enrollment for first-level classes before July 31, 2024.

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a framework for the new school year plan and noted that when developing the school year plan, localities must ensure the principle of having enough actual study weeks and being suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.

In which, localities ensure that preschool education and general education have 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for semester I, 17 weeks for semester II).

For continuing education (implementing the secondary and high school education programs), grades 9 and 12 of high school have 32 weeks of actual study (16 weeks per semester). Grades 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11 have 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for semester I, 17 weeks for semester II).

The Ministry of Education and Training also clearly stipulates the responsibility of leaders of provinces and cities to decide on the school year schedule for students in their management areas in accordance with local realities.

Localities can return to school no more than 15 days earlier than the Ministry's plan to ensure the implementation and completion of preschool, general education and continuing education programs in case of natural disasters or epidemics.

The Ministry also requested localities to report on the preparation for the school year and the organization of the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year before September 10, summarize the first semester before January 31, 2024, summarize the school year, report on the implementation results of emulation criteria and propose rewards for the school year before June 25, 2024.
