On the afternoon of September 18, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City, Le Thi Bich Thuan, sent an urgent document to educational institutions in the area about allowing students to stay home from school due to the possibility of a tropical depression strengthening into a storm, causing heavy rain.
The document requires educational institutions in the area for preschool children, students, and trainees across the city to be off from school from the afternoon of September 18 and all day on September 19. Private universities, based on the actual situation, proactively decide on students' attendance.
The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City requested educational institutions to seriously implement the official dispatches of the City People's Committee and the Department on strengthening natural disaster prevention and control in 2024 as well as the direction of local leaders on natural disaster prevention and control, storms and floods; regularly update information on the current situation of tropical depressions and heavy rains, maintain contact through many information channels to proactively respond safely, minimize damage caused by heavy rains, ensure regular, two-way communication between the leaders of the Department (Division) of Education and Training - Heads of units, schools - homeroom teachers - parents of students and trainees.
Proactively and urgently organize cleaning and sanitizing schools and classrooms after tropical depressions and storms, when the water recedes and the rain stops so that preschool children, students, and trainees can return to school soon.
Da Nang City currently has 207 kindergartens, 101 primary schools, 60 secondary schools, 32 high schools and multi-level schools, 3 Continuing Education Centers and a system of 10 universities under Da Nang University.
According to the reporter, on the morning of September 18, heavy rain and strong winds caused many roads in the central area of Da Nang city to be flooded from 20 to over 50 cm, and some areas had broken and fallen trees. To avoid damage caused by storms, the government and fishermen proactively brought their fishing boats ashore.
