New Zealand Scholarships for Vietnamese High School Students

VTC NewsVTC News18/01/2024

The New Zealand Secondary School Scholarship (NZSS) is an education initiative of Education New Zealand (ENZ) launched in 2019.

This is the first and only New Zealand government scholarship programme for secondary school students with a unique application format, giving students the opportunity to maximise their potential.

Therefore, in recent times, scholarships have been widely accepted and highly appreciated by parents, students and educational institutions in Vietnam.

In 2023, the program was successfully launched by the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Zealand Government Secondary School Scholarship recipients have access to a world-class secondary education system, with dedicated guidance and care in a high-quality academic environment in New Zealand.

In particular, many of these young people have gone on to win scholarships from prestigious universities in New Zealand and other countries, as well as achieved many other outstanding achievements in their academic careers.

This year's scholarship programme offers scholarships covering 50% of tuition fees for the first year of study at one of 18 top New Zealand secondary schools.

This program follows the success of the New Zealand Education Fair event held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in October 2023 with the participation of more than 1,000 parents and students.

New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, Ms. Tredene Dobson, appreciated the important role of scholarships in the bilateral education relationship.

“We are delighted with the results we have achieved since the New Zealand Government Secondary School Scholarships were launched. Over the years, we have received many high quality applications from Vietnamese students. The young people who have won the scholarships have gone on to achieve very impressive results in New Zealand. We are extremely proud to have contributed to their academic success.

We hope that you will not only study well in New Zealand but also contribute positively to your school and community with your New Zealand students, thereby gaining a better understanding of the concept of “global citizenship,” Ambassador Tredene Dobson shared.

What's new in this year's programme is that applicants who fail the New Zealand Government Secondary School Scholarship will still be given a second chance: the Scholarships Committee will continue to consider these applicants for other scholarships from New Zealand secondary schools.

This dual admission mechanism ensures that applicants can maximise their chances of receiving a scholarship when they apply. Secondary school students wishing to apply for the New Zealand Government Secondary School Scholarship must meet the prescribed criteria, including a grade point average (GPA) of 8 or above and an English language qualification equivalent to IELTS 5.0.
