Activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory in Algeria

The Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria coordinated with El Moudjahid newspaper to organize a press conference, providing the press and Algerian friends with a lot of information related to the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the Geneva Agreement.

According to the VNA correspondent in Algeria, at noon on April 4, in the capital Algiers, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria coordinated with El Moudjahid newspaper, Algeria's largest daily newspaper, to hold a press conference to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam (July 21, 1954 - July 21, 2024) and provide the Algerian press and friends with a lot of information related to these two historic events. Attending the press conference on the Algerian side were Mr. Messaoud Ghesri, Vice President of the Algerian People's National Assembly, representatives of the Algerian People's National Assembly Committees, the Algerian National Council, the Secretary General of the Algerian Veterans Association, the Director General of El Moudjahid newspaper, representatives of the diplomatic corps and a large number of journalists, veterans and Algerian friends. On the Vietnamese side, in addition to the delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy led by Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh, there were also representatives of the Defense Attaché Office, the Vietnam News Agency Resident Office and a film crew from the Military Radio and Television Center who are in Algeria to make the documentary "Dien Bien Phu seen from Africa." Speaking at the press conference, Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh highlighted the great significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the Geneva Agreement for oppressed people around the world. For the Algerian revolution, this was truly a source of inspiration, confidence and great encouragement for the Algerian people to rise up and make a revolution on November 1, 1954. The Ambassador affirmed that the lessons from the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the Geneva Agreement are still valuable today and need to be passed on to the younger generations of the two countries to jointly foster and build a good traditional friendship in all aspects. (Photo: Trung Khanh/VNA) Speaking at the event, on behalf of the film crew, Lieutenant Colonel Le Quang Huy shared touching stories and warm feelings that the Algerian people had for the crew during the last days of March and the first days of April when they were traveling to make a documentary about the Dien Bien Phu Victory. Everywhere the film crew went to work, they heard the Algerian people shouting out affectionate words like "Vietnam-Ho Chi Minh, Vo Nguyen Giap." Algerian delegates said that many Algerians consider the Dien Bien Phu victory a common victory of the two nations, and that the Algerian revolution and the Vietnamese revolution have a close and connected relationship. They still remember clearly the important historical milestones of the Dien Bien Phu victory, the signing of the Geneva Accords as well as the touching words of General Vo Nguyen Giap during his visit to Algeria in 1976. After the press conference, many delegates who are veterans and Algerian people stayed to meet the Vietnamese delegates to express their love and admiration for the Vietnamese people in the war against imperialism as well as for the achievements in building and developing the country today./.
