Ms. Pham Thi Nhan with Hao Nhan black chicken egg product certified with 3-star OCOP.
Go back to hometown to start a business
In 2016, after graduating from high school, instead of choosing to take the university entrance exam like his peers, the young man Dinh Duc Phu (born in 1996) in Que Thuan commune, Que Son district registered to study and work in the auto repair industry in Japan with a salary of about 40 million VND per month. In 2020, the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, work was temporarily suspended, and worrying about his elderly parents, he decided to quit his high-paying job abroad to return home to start a business. With the capital accumulated during his time in Japan, Mr. Phu borrowed more to invest nearly 2 billion VND to renovate his family's garden and build a system of barns to raise sika deer. While at first he mainly sold fresh deer antlers, now Mr. Phu processes them into many products such as deer antler extract, deer antlers soaked in honey, dried deer antlers, deer antlers combined with ginseng, and soaked in wine. In 2024, Mr. Phu's deer antler wine product achieved 3-star OCOP certification, marking an important step on the journey to conquer the market.
Mr. Phu shared that to achieve today's achievements, it is not only his own efforts in researching, exploring, and creating high-value deer antler products, but also the companionship and support of departments, branches, and organizations. In particular, the Youth Union at the commune and district levels has accompanied him since the early days of starting his business. "The deer antler wine product achieving 3-star OCOP certification in 2024 is a great joy for me. This is the motivation for me to continue to develop, perfect the product, and build the deer antler brand to grow more and more," said Mr. Phu.
Ms. Pham Thi Nhan (Duy Trinh commune, Duy Xuyen district) used to work in a bank in Ho Chi Minh City. However, due to a serious illness, she returned to her hometown for treatment. In 2019, the idea of starting a business began to take shape for her, starting with the combined raising of pigs and chickens. Through the research phase, Ms. Nhan learned that raising black chickens is not popular in the area. Therefore, she determined to start a business with a quantity of up to 5,000 chickens from chicks to laying hens. As a result, Hao Nhan black chicken eggs were certified as 3-star OCOP by Quang Nam province in 2021 and are currently available at many clean food stores and supermarkets. “Through the channels of the Youth Union, I was supported with a loan of 100 million VND to develop the product, and the commune union supported me in building my image and promoting the product on social networking platforms. After being recognized as OCOP in 2021, the product continues to be supported by the Youth Union to participate in trade promotion events, contributing to raising awareness and affirming its delicious quality," Ms. Nhan shared.
Create quality OCOP products
Recognizing the importance and benefits for young people when developing OCOP standard products, in recent times, the Youth Union at all levels of Quang Nam province has organized many programs and activities to encourage and support young people to start businesses and establish businesses, aiming to create quality OCOP products. At the same time, the Youth Union organizations in the province are also a bridge to help young people access loan sources, provide support funds and accompany and guide young people to complete the application for recognition of standard products.
Standing Deputy Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Youth Union Hoang Van Thanh said that every year, the Youth Union at all levels regularly propagates to members and young people to understand the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program through new and vivid propaganda publications. At the same time, the Provincial Youth Union also proactively coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Nam province to guide young business households, cooperatives, and youth cooperative groups to register to participate in the OCOP program. "Accompanying and supporting young people in developing OCOP products opens up prospects for developing business models and cooperatives owned by young people. This contributes to improving the value and quality of products, creating more job opportunities for young people in the locality," emphasized Mr. Hoang Van Thanh.
