The Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has proposed providing psychological support to students affected by the fire at a mini-apartment building on Khuong Ha Street on the night of September 12.
"Many students are suffering from psychological trauma, so they need to be cared for, visited, and helped to stabilize their mental state soon," said Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong at the Education Trade Union Conference on the morning of September 14.
The Department of Education and Training said that 29 students were victims of the fire in a mini apartment building on Khuong Ha Street, Thanh Xuan District. Of these, 10 died (5 secondary school students, 4 primary school students and one preschooler); 3 students have not been contacted; the remaining injured are being treated at the hospital. All of the victims were from schools in Thanh Xuan District.
The Hanoi Education Trade Union said that it will first coordinate with the Thanh Xuan District Department of Education and Training to visit the victims; then arrange for psychological teachers to support and advise the students. In addition, homeroom teachers will tutor and help students supplement their knowledge before returning to school.
This morning, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also organized a fundraiser, collecting more than 179 million VND to support the families of the students in the accident. This amount is expected to continue to increase.
"This is a huge loss. This money will be transferred to the victims who are being treated and some families who are having to take care of the funerals of their children," said Mr. Cuong.

The fire at apartment building number 37, alley 29/70, Khuong Ha street, Thanh Xuan district occurred at 11pm on September 12. Of the 150 residents living here, authorities determined that 56 people died.
The city government has provided VND37 million in support for each deceased victim and VND12.4 million for the injured. The deceased children received an additional VND5 million from the city’s Children’s Support Fund; the injured children who had to be treated in hospital received an additional VND10 million.
The city also supports students, workers, and laborers who rent or share apartments with 1.5 million VND/month for 6 months. Victims who need to be treated in the hospital are supported with all expenses. Families with children going to school are supported with 5 million VND to buy books and school supplies.
According to experts, fire experiences can easily lead to anxiety disorders, sleep disorders and nightmares in children. Therefore, children need psychological support, sharing their thoughts and worries as well as being encouraged to return to their previous lives, including entertainment.
