Nam Dinh coach blames players after draw

Coach Vu Hong Viet said that the home team Nam Dinh missed many good opportunities and only drew 1-1 with Hai Phong in round 8 of V-League 2023.

"I'm very sorry that we didn't get three points," coach Vu Hong Viet said after the draw at Thien Truong Stadium. "In the first half, the team created many good opportunities but couldn't convert them into goals. In the last minute, we had a great chance but couldn't score. It's a pity that Nam Dinh drew."

Coach Vu Hong Viet said Nam Dinh had lost to Hai Phong in all 5 recent matches, so the team was determined to defeat their opponent to end the streak, when facing each other after more than a month of V-League break for U22 Vietnam to play in the SEA Games. The home team at Thien Truong Stadium started well when opening the score in the 5th minute. Ho Khac Ngoc escaped down the right wing, passed the ball to Nnamani who leaned in and finished close to the goal.

Nam Dinh then had less possession but had more chances to shoot than their opponents, with four shots. However, their foreign strikers all sent the ball out of the goal. In the 38th minute, the home team lost the lead when center-back Hoang Van Khanh made a mistake, allowing Mpande to get past him in the middle and shoot hard past goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh to equalize.

In the second half, Nam Dinh continued to gain advantages. Hai Phong goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu was injured and had to leave the field to make way for Nguyen Van Toan in the 75th minute. Six minutes later, coach Vu Hong Viet's team had an extra man when Le Trung Hieu received a second yellow card and was sent off after an aerial collision with his opponent. After the match ended, many Nam Dinh fans expressed dissatisfaction with the team. They criticized the team for not having built a clear playing style. Coach Vu Hong Viet, when asked, expressed dissatisfaction with this point of view. He said: "Nam Dinh's playing style is very clear. I built a style of play that controlled the ball and played short balls. I forced the players to execute the plan exactly like that. Nam Dinh has a playing style, not that they don't have one. This year we recruited many new players, so we need time to create harmony in the playing style."

After a 1-1 draw with Hai Phong, Nam Dinh has 13 points, ranking fourth. Coach Vu Hong Viet affirmed that the team at Thien Truong Stadium will finish the first leg in the top 8 to have a place in the championship group in the second stage.

On Hai Phong's side, coach Chu Dinh Nghiem was satisfied with the draw with Nam Dinh. He said: "Playing with Nam Dinh at Thien Truong Stadium with a large audience, any team will have difficulty. We lost focus in the first half, leading to the loss. But after the equalizer, the team played better. When we had to play with one less man due to a red card, my players had the courage to overcome and get a point."

Mr. Nghiem was not satisfied with the decision to give Trung Hieu a red card. He said: "The referee's decision to give Trung Hieu a red card was a bit harsh. In that situation, the player accidentally collided, it was not malicious and the opposing team's player was still able to play football."

Hai Phong won the runner-up position in V-League 2022 but this season only got 8 points after 8 matches. Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem said this is normal when the team just went through a transfer period losing a series of key players such as striker Rimario, midfielder Moses, Dung Quang Nho, Chau Ngoc Quang and center back Bui Tien Dung.

The most famous player to join Hai Phong is Luong Xuan Truong, but he just returned from injury and relapsed.

"Xuan Truong suffered a strained thigh muscle during training during the recent V-League break. He will need 7 to 8 weeks to return," said coach Chu Dinh Nghiem.
