Việt NamViệt Nam27/11/2024

Located 30km from the district center, despite its large area, accounting for a quarter of the entire Yen Lap district, Trung Son highland commune has almost no natural terrain, mainly high mountains, deep ravines and 97% of the population are Muong, Dao, Tay ethnic groups. These are obstacles in the economic development of the locality. However, exploiting the potential and strengths of having a source of clean, cool water, combined with the application of scientific and technological advances, some households in the commune have boldly invested in facilities to raise sturgeon, initially bringing positive economic results.

Effectiveness of sturgeon farming model in Trung Son

The sturgeon farming facility in Trung Son commune has a scale of 50,000 sturgeons, supplying both juvenile and commercial sturgeon to the market.

In 2022, Mr. Ha Cong Duc (Tuy Loc commune, Cam Khe district), after many times of researching and learning from experiences and techniques at farming facilities inside and outside the province; realizing that the natural conditions and water temperature in Trung Son are suitable for sturgeon to grow and develop, decided to join forces with some households in Nhoi area to start raising sturgeon in the area in the form of raising in built tanks lined with tarpaulin. After a period of raising and caring, the fish grew healthily, weighing about 3-4kg/fish, the first batch of fish was sold to the market quite favorably by households.

Mr. Ha Cong Duc shared: “Raising sturgeon requires a clean, cool water environment, below 250C, we have chosen upstream locations to take water into the pond. With high mountainous terrain, lower environmental temperature, cool air are favorable conditions for stable fish growth. For fish to develop strongly from the beginning, young fish will be raised in plastic tanks for training, after reaching a safe size, they will be transferred to large cement tanks for commercial farming. The ponds are arranged in a hierarchical manner from top to bottom, through a system of pipes leading water from the mountain stream so that the water can circulate continuously, ensuring the necessary amount of dissolved oxygen for the fish. After more than 2 years of construction and operation, the fish farm has released many batches of fingerlings and 2 batches of commercial fish to the market with an output of nearly 7 tons of fish. In the coming time, we will continue to improve farming techniques, strengthen links, protect and share water resources, ensuring safety. food hygiene; focus on trade promotion to create output for products, contributing to increasing income for farming households".

The successful sturgeon farming of households in Trung Son commune has opened up a new direction for commodity production based on the potential and advantages of the mountainous district, with a climate environment and cold water source, contributing to increasing income, improving people's lives, providing high-value food sources to serve the needs of society. At the same time, it has created favorable conditions for the formation and expansion of Yen Lap's concentrated sturgeon farming areas in the communes of Xuan Vien, My Lung, My Luong, Trung Son... and expanding to a number of communes in the district. More importantly, the economic efficiency of this model has contributed to restructuring, creating jobs, and increasing income for people in the area and commune.

Comrade Dinh Thi Linh - Head of Nhoi area said: The success of the sturgeon farming model has created jobs for about 30 local workers with an average income of nearly 10 million VND/person/month. People in the area are very excited and support the production conversion. The successful sturgeon farming model will open up new prospects for economic development, increasing income for people in Nhoi area in particular and Trung Son commune in general.

To facilitate the stages of management, care and finding markets for products, currently, households associated with raising sturgeon in Trung Son wish to be facilitated and guided in the procedures for establishing a Cooperative Group to support each other in production and consumption, gradually expanding the scale, contributing to the development of the local economy. At the same time, functional sectors coordinate to survey and determine the water surface area, stable water supply sources and have mechanisms and policies to support facilities investing in developing sturgeon farming...
