Flight operations at northern airports were affected by fog during the peak of the 2025 Lunar New Year, forcing passengers to wait at Tan Son Nhat for flights.
On January 25, a large number of passengers continued to flock to Tan Son Nhat International Airport to check in for flights to local airports for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.
The atmosphere on the first day of Tet holiday at the country's largest airport was quite bustling. Thousands of people were carrying luggage and pulling suitcases. In the halls, the station staff guided the route and lined up neatly to complete procedures.
However, delays have occurred on a series of flights of Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways... to local airports. Some flights were delayed for 4-6 hours, making passengers tired of waiting.
In the case of Ms. Dinh Thi Diem (living in Thu Duc City) and her family flew back to Hai Phong on the 7:30 am flight.
In addition to having to arrive at the airport early at 4am, Ms. Diem's family had to queue for an hour to check in because they had checked baggage and could not check in online.
Not only that, when she entered the quarantine area waiting to board the plane, she received a notice from Vietjet Air about the flight delay.
"I have received 4 notices about flight delays. The most recent one reported a departure date of 10:35 a.m., but I don't know if this will be the last one. There are many cases of delays like mine at the airport, everyone is tired," Ms. Diem worried.
Ms. Thanh Huong (living in District 10) had a flight to Lien Khuong airport (Lam Dong) with Bamboo Airways and also received notice from the airline that the flight schedule had been postponed twice.
A series of flights were affected by fog.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, some airports in the northern region were affected by fog and limited visibility, causing operations to be disrupted.
On January 24 alone, fog and low visibility forced some flights to wait or divert, affecting airlines' operating plans and service quality for passengers.
Specifically, in the early morning of January 24, from 1:30 to 9:00, due to fog at Vinh Airport, Vietnam Airlines had 5 flights diverted to land at Noi Bai Airport, 4 flights were delayed and had a chain reaction affecting a number of other flights during the day.
Vietjet Air had 1 flight to Vinh Airport, 1 flight to Tho Xuan Airport had to divert to Noi Bai Airport, 5 flights were delayed and had a chain reaction affecting some other flights during the day.
The airline has provided transportation support for passengers who had to divert to Noi Bai airport by bus to Vinh and Thanh Hoa.
The Civil Aviation Authority said that the fog in the northern region is forecast to continue in the coming days and may affect flights to and from airports in the region such as Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, and Hai Phong.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested airlines to promptly update information to passengers in case of flight delays or diversions, serve passengers attentively and thoughtfully, and fully fulfill the obligations of airlines to passengers.
The Department will continue to closely monitor and work with agencies and units to promptly handle issues arising during the peak air transport season of the 2025 Lunar New Year with the highest goal of safety on every flight.
