The Hyunmoo-2A missile, with a range of up to 300 km and a payload capacity of nearly 1 ton, is one of the key weapons in South Korea's defense strategy. Developed by the Korean Agency for Defense Development (ADD), the Hyunmoo-2A shares design features with Russia's Iskander-M missile, but the similarities mainly reflect combat capability requirements, not technology transfer.

The Hyunmoo-2A, with its high accuracy (CEP 30 meters), provides precision strikes on strategic targets, thereby enhancing South Korea's deterrence against potential threats. Since its introduction in 2008, the missile has been used in military exercises in response to missile tests.

In 2017, the Hyunmoo-2A simulated attacks on key sites of a long-time adversary during a combat exercise. While the exact number of Hyunmoo-2A missiles is not known, it and its variants play a key role in South Korea's defense strategy, allowing the country to launch quick and effective retaliatory strikes against escalating military actions from the enemy.
