The Hanoi People's Committee Office has just issued a document on checking and handling information about tax evasion of Poker tournaments in Hanoi.

According to the document, public opinion has recently reflected on "The problem of tax evasion in Poker tournaments with prizes worth tens of billions of VND". Therefore, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai requested the Hanoi Tax Department, Hanoi Police, Department of Culture and Sports and districts to resolutely handle violations of tax laws in the organization of Poker tournaments.

Specifically, the Hanoi People's Committee presides over and coordinates with the City Police and relevant units to organize inspections and reviews of compliance with tax laws.

Especially personal income tax, value added tax, corporate income tax and other violations against organizations and individuals participating in organizing and winning prizes at Poker tournaments in the city.

Units assess the implementation of declaration, tax payment and other financial obligations according to current laws.

In case of detecting non-compliance with regulations, proactively handle according to authority or report to competent authority for handling according to law.

Hanoi Tax Department is assigned to summarize the inspection and evaluation results and report to the City People's Committee before December 30.

Previously, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh assigned relevant units to check and handle information about the widely advertised "WPT Vietnam 2024" poker tournament, scheduled to be held in Hanoi. Later, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports did not agree with the organization policy, so the tournament was canceled.

Recently, public opinion has reflected that Poker clubs are easily established when only members of the Vietnam Poker Association and have a membership card to apply for local recognition. This creates favorable conditions for organizing disguised gambling.

Many poker tournaments are heavily advertised with huge prize money of up to 50-60 billion VND and entry fees of several million VND.
