On the afternoon of April 16, the Provincial People's Committee held a press conference to inform about the socio-economic situation in the first quarter and key tasks and solutions for socio-economic development in the second quarter of 2024. Regarding the socio-economic situation in the first quarter, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that the domestic and international context in the first months of 2024 continued to have unpredictable fluctuations with many opportunities and challenges intertwined. Implementing the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee have focused on directing sectors and localities to implement many synchronous and drastic measures to develop the socio-economy. Social security work and organizing activities to welcome the Lunar New Year 2024 are ensured.
In general, the socio-economic situation in the first quarter of 2024 maintained stability and development. Accordingly, GRDP in the first quarter increased by 6.3% over the same period; of which: Agriculture, forestry and fishery increased by 3.36%; industry and construction increased by 8.22% (of which industry increased by 8.48%; construction increased by 7.57%); services increased by 6.33%; product taxes minus product subsidies increased by 8.04% over the same period.
The province's GRDP growth rate in the first quarter of 2024 ranked 22nd out of 63 localities nationwide, 7th out of 14 localities in the North Central and Central Coast regions, and 1st out of 5 localities in the Central key economic region. Cultural and social activities continued to have positive changes; social security was ensured; national defense and security were maintained.
Regarding the 2024 Binh Dinh Sports, Culture and Tourism Week (Amazing Binh Dinh Fest 2024), Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that although this was the first time organizing an event of international scale, with the efforts of provincial leaders, authorities at all levels, agencies and units, the Amazing Binh Dinh Fest 2024 was successful beyond expectations and achieved the 4 important goals initially set.
The four goals include: promoting the image of the country and people of Binh Dinh to the world; attracting tourists to Binh Dinh; allowing Binh Dinh people to enjoy many new, international cultural and sports events and activities; and attracting investors to explore cooperation opportunities in Binh Dinh.
After the success of the Amazing Binh Dinh Fest Week 2024, Binh Dinh province can host and do well many international events in the coming time. In the immediate future, the province, departments, branches and the People's Committee of Quy Nhon city are focusing on preparing to organize a series of summer tourism activities in 2024, starting with the 2024 International Teqball Tournament.
In the management of land, mineral resources and environmental protection, the report of the Provincial People's Committee said that the province has directed departments, branches and localities to strengthen the management of mineral resources (soil, rock, sand, etc.), inspect and promptly handle cases of illegal or improper exploitation of soil, rock, sand, etc., causing waste of resources, budget loss and environmental pollution.
