Preserving and promoting traditional Thai culture

Le Loi Commune (Nam Nhun District, Lai Chau Province) has over 98% of Thai people living in 5 villages. The residential area is located at the confluence of three rivers: Da River, Nam Na River and Nam Lay Stream. The people's lives are closely linked to the river, causing many cultural features to gradually form and have their own characteristics. These include traditional stilt houses; Ao Com costumes; fan dances, xoe dances; folk songs, folk dances and unique cuisine... passed down through many generations. With the development and cultural exchange between regions, many unique cultural features of the ethnic groups are at risk of fading away, causing concern for the Party Committee, the commune government and those who care about ethnic culture.

To preserve and promote good traditional culture, the Party Committee and the communal government direct organizations to strengthen coordination with the propaganda villages so that people understand the role and value of national culture; orient solutions to preserve and transmit. Maintain the organization of cultural and artistic activities, physical education and sports, create useful playgrounds, and strengthen solidarity in the community.

Along with that, Nam Nhun district also chose Le Loi commune as the place to organize annual traditional festivals. In recent years, Thai ethnic people have organized weddings and funerals to ensure savings and shorten time but in the spirit of preserving traditional customs.

Joining hands and hearts to build a cultural village, uniting to build a civilized lifestyle, a cultural family; preventing the spread of harmful cultural products; eliminating superstitions, bad customs, and preventing social evils in the locality. Ms. Lo Thi Chinh in Co Mun village confided: As a child of the Thai people in Le Loi commune, I am always proud of traditional culture. Therefore, I maintain wearing a com shirt, a skirt, and a sac tich. At the same time, I participate in practicing arts and performing in village and commune events; educating children to preserve the beauty of their ethnic culture.

Preserving and promoting traditional Thai culture

The Chieng Le village art troupe (Le Loi commune, Nam Nhun district) performed at the National Day for National Security Protection organized by the commune.

Up to now, 100% of the commune's villages have established art troupes; the teams regularly collect and practice folk songs and dances. The people of the villages maintain folk games. During holidays and Tet, the commune organizes art and sports exchanges between the villages and neighboring communes. And, the Swallow-tailed Boat Racing Tournament held locally also attracts many participating teams and has achieved many impressive results; the King Le Thai To Temple Festival is held annually to help promote culture and community tourism.

Mr. Luong Van Son - Vice Chairman of Le Loi Commune People's Committee affirmed: Currently, the commune is maintaining the activities of 8 commune and village art troupes. The commune pays attention to preserving Thai ethnic culture and always identifies economic development and poverty reduction as key tasks, traditional culture is the spiritual foundation of the people.

The elders of the Thai people always try to teach the quintessence of traditional musical instruments, rituals of organizing Tet, weddings, and funerals to the younger generation. Every year, the commune organizes sports and art exchange activities. Thereby, introducing the beauty of culture; helping the Thai people here to be more proud, cherish and continue to make efforts to preserve and promote.

Along with that, Le Loi commune is interested in investing and supplementing grassroots cultural institutions, creating a favorable space for organizing community activities; practicing sports, practicing arts. Currently, all villages have cultural houses that ensure scale and functionality. Bad customs in weddings, funerals and festivals are gradually being eliminated. By 2024, over 85% of villages and households will achieve cultural titles.
