Preschool teacher looking forward to early retirement

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên30/05/2024

As a kindergarten teacher with 26 years of teaching experience, Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh, a teacher at Phu Son Kindergarten (Thanh Hoa), said that in reality, kindergarten teachers sometimes work up to 12 hours a day. "In the summer, we have to go to work at 6:30 a.m. and in the winter, at 6:45 a.m. We usually leave at 5:30 p.m., but there are days when parents forget to pick up their children, and we still have to stay and wait until 6 p.m. Not only that, we also have to make school supplies, participate in competitions, and participate in movement activities in our free time...", Ms. Lan Anh shared.

Many GVMN wish to retire early

According to Ms. Lan Anh, kindergarten teachers play many roles, being both a teacher and a mother, knowing how to dance, sing, play games, and sometimes acting as a nurse to make sure children take their medicine on time... However, if a student accidentally scratches a friend or gets into a fight, parents will come to the classroom to demand compensation, scold them, and some teachers are even attacked by parents.

Ms. Lan Anh confided: "At the age of nearly 50, we feel that we are no longer suitable for vibrant activities, our temperaments are also more subdued and we live an introverted life. Our health has declined, many days we come home breathless, unable to speak clearly due to sore throat, laryngitis. Some teachers have been in the profession for more than 30 years, but are not old enough to retire, so they cannot stay and quit their jobs, not waiting to receive the insurance policy, this is quite a disadvantage."

Not only pressure from parents, Ms. Le Ngoc Ha, a preschool teacher in Hoang Mai District (Hanoi), said that teaching preschool, every day has to endure pressure from the noise of children crying, the smell of vomiting, regurgitation, exposure to a lot of waste from children..., even working in an environment with a lot of bacteria and viruses, because children often get sick...

Ms. Ngoc Ha shared: "In fact, children and parents also like to learn from young, dynamic teachers. When seeing their children placed in the class of older teachers, many parents asked to transfer to a class with a younger teacher, which makes us feel hurt, hurt and no longer enthusiastic as before. If we can retire early, it will not only meet the wishes of older teachers, but also be an opportunity for young teachers to meet the requirements of good health and expertise to contribute to the career of educating people."

At the age of 54, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Principal of Thanh Tung Kindergarten (Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An), has spent her youth as a "child-rearing teacher". She shared: "Reducing the retirement age is a very reasonable and correct proposal in the current context. This is not only my wish but also the wish of all teachers in the school. We hope that our profession will be classified as a heavy and toxic profession so that kindergarten teachers can retire early".

Responding to Thanh Nien , Dr. Bui Sy Loi, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Social Committee, acknowledged that preschool teachers not only teach children but also ensure their safety and health. "If preschool teachers have impaired vision, blurred vision, or slow legs, they should be classified as heavy, toxic, and dangerous occupations and the authorities should be asked to consider specifically reducing the retirement age by 1-5 years compared to the general retirement age stipulated in the Labor Code," said Mr. Loi.
