On the morning of May 14, the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) coordinated with the Hanoi Traffic Safety Committee to organize the "Launching Ceremony in Response to the 7th Global Road Safety Week" at Cat Linh Station.

The launching ceremony is in response to the 7th Global Road Safety Week launched by the United Nations from May 15-21.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said that before 2012, about 30 people died in traffic accidents every day, but by 2022, a report from the Ministry of Public Security showed that only 17 people died in traffic accidents every day, a decrease of nearly 50% compared to 10 years ago.

However, the damage caused by traffic accidents is still very large, not only in terms of human lives but also causing great damage to the country's development.

“In Vietnam and some Asian countries, the majority of people have developed the habit of traveling by motorbike and gradually switched to cars as their incomes increased. In addition to the benefits of flexibility and convenience, participating in traffic by personal motor vehicles carries the risk of traffic accidents and is the cause of traffic congestion and environmental pollution, especially in urban areas,” said Mr. Khuat Viet Hung.

Mr. Hung said that through the "7th Global Road Safety Week", the National Traffic Safety Committee calls on all levels, sectors and the general public to change their thinking about traffic.

Accordingly, gradually shift from traveling by personal motor vehicles to traveling by bicycle, electric vehicle, public transport, combined with walking to help make traffic greener, cleaner and especially increasingly safer.

At the same time, the National Traffic Safety Committee recommends that the police force continue to promote and educate the law on the topic of compliance with regulations on speed and traffic rules.

At the same time, the police force increased patrols to strictly handle traffic violations such as: speeding, alcohol concentration, encroachment on pedestrians, rudimentary vehicles, riding on sidewalks...
