Specifically, according to the record at 4:30 a.m. (Vietnam time) on the Oilprice website, Brent oil price reached 64.59 USD per barrel, up 2.26%, equivalent to 1.43 USD. Meanwhile, WTI oil price also increased sharply by 2.38%, to 61.48 USD per barrel.
Despite the weekend rebound, oil prices still posted their second consecutive weekly loss, with Brent down 82 cents and WTI down 49 cents, suggesting the weekend gains were not enough to offset the steep losses earlier in the week.
The main reason for the surge in oil prices is the news that the US is considering stronger action to stop Iran's crude exports. This could tighten global oil supplies, contributing to higher prices.
Lipow Oil Associates President Andrew Lipow said the US tightening of controls on Iran’s oil exports will have a direct impact on global supply, creating upward pressure on prices. However, the market is still unstable due to previous losses and ongoing uncertainties.
Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank, said that although some tariffs have been suspended by the US for 90 days, except for the tariffs on China, the damage to the market has already been done and it is difficult to restore stability immediately.
In addition, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has revised down its global economic growth forecast and warned that current tax policies could put significant pressure on the oil market. Forecasts for US and global oil demand for both this year and next have also been lowered, indicating that the oil market is still facing many challenges despite signs of short-term recovery.
