It is forecasted that shrimp prices will continue to decrease in the coming time.
Tuan Hien Aquaculture Company Limited harvested high-tech shrimp on April 4.

According to Mr. Ngo Minh Tuan, Director of Tuan Hien Aquaculture Company Limited (Tan Phu Dong District, Tien Giang Province), from April 3 to today, shrimp prices have begun to decrease quite sharply. Specifically, in the previous days, white-leg shrimp of 20 pieces/kg were priced at 220,000 - 230,000 VND/kg, and 30 pieces/kg at about 200,000 VND/kg. However, in the past 2 days, the price of white-leg shrimp has decreased by about 20,000 - 30,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Tuan said: “Currently, farmers are only selling large-sized shrimp, usually 20 or 30 shrimp/kg. These two sizes are being discounted a lot. As for the small sizes, few people are selling them, so the prices have not been discounted much. The reason for the decline in shrimp prices may be due to information from the US imposing a 46% reciprocal tax on imported goods from Vietnam. Vietnamese seafood businesses are reducing prices and being cautious in purchasing.”

High-tech shrimp farming is effective, safe and profitable many times more than traditional production.
High-tech shrimp farming is effective, safe and profitable many times more than traditional production.

According to Mr. Tuan, from the business perspective, it is forecasted that shrimp prices will continue to decrease in the coming time. Because when factories reduce purchasing prices, other domestic consumption sources will decrease accordingly. In the future, the shrimp farming industry in particular and the seafood industry in general will face many difficulties.

Therefore, businesses are forced to change production according to market demand. Previously, businesses that raised large shrimp for export to the US market have now shifted to markets with lower taxes. For example, the Chinese market, which consumes smaller shrimp than the US.

According to the People's Committee of Tien Giang province, the aquaculture situation in the first 3 months of 2025 in the province was relatively stable. The aquaculture and exploitation output both increased compared to the same period. The aquaculture area of all kinds in the quarter reached 9,575 hectares, up 0.5% over the same period.
