Experts say that the current supply of pepper in the global market is very scarce and demand is expected to continue to increase or remain stable. This will continue to push prices up.

According to Thestar (Singapore), global pepper prices, after a sharp increase in mid-2024, are expected to continue to grow this year, as pepper production has seriously declined and demand far exceeds supply.

Meanwhile, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, Ms. Hoang Thi Lien, is optimistic about the global pepper market in 2025 as output is expected to continue to decline and extreme weather conditions have reduced pepper productivity in many countries.

In addition, China, which imported little pepper from Vietnam last year, is expected to increase purchases as Vietnam enters its main harvest this month. Some industry analysts predict that Vietnamese pepper prices could rise 40% to 50% from current levels.

Currently, local farmers are focusing on harvesting pepper. However, pepper productivity in some areas is forecast to decrease due to weather effects.

Global pepper prices have recorded a sharp increase since mid-2024 and are expected to continue to rise this year, due to a decline in pepper production and demand outstripping supply. In the short term, pepper prices may continue to rise, especially if China, one of the largest markets for Vietnamese pepper, increases imports. However, prices may adjust when supplies from the new harvest begin to appear.

With the forecast of a shortage of supply and output, pepper importers in the US and Europe, who have realized early that the global pepper price trend will continue to increase, are rushing to stock up, causing pepper prices to stay high.
