Global pepper prices are forecast to enter an upward phase in early 2025 due to reduced supply and increased transportation costs.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that pepper demand is recovering, especially in China, while exports from Vietnam have decreased, contributing to boosting prices. As of December 15, Vietnam's pepper exports reached nearly 242,000 tons, bringing in $1.26 billion, far exceeding the 2023 figure in value, although the volume decreased slightly.
Experts predict that the amount of pepper in stock among the people has been exhausted, leaving only the warehouses of businesses and agents. In the next 3-5 years, global pepper output is expected to still not meet demand, leading to a new cycle of price increases.
Many farmers said that instead of planting new crops en masse, they focus on improving quality and productivity through organic farming.
