Recorded in localities today, the amount of incoming rice continues to be low, the buying and selling transactions continue to be slow. In Lap Vo - Vam Cong (Dong Thap), the amount of incoming rice is low, most warehouses are closed for Tet and have stopped buying. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), all kinds of rice are priced at the same level, warehouses closed for Tet have stopped buying.

Sa Dec market canal (Dong Thap), the amount of incoming rice is low, the market rice transaction near Tet continues to be slow, rice price is stable. At An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang), the amount is low, most warehouses are closed for Tet and stop buying, rice price is stable.

At retail markets, rice prices are stable compared to yesterday. Currently, regular rice fluctuates at 16,000 - 17,000 VND/kg; Nang Nhen rice has the highest listed price of 28,000 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice is 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice is 22,000 VND/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice fluctuates at 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg; common white rice is 17,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice is 22,000 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice is 21,000 VND/kg; Soc regular rice fluctuates at 18,000 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice is 21,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice is 22,000 VND/kg.

In many localities today, rice supply is slow, new rice transactions continue to be slow. In Soc Trang, early winter-spring rice is offered by farmers in increasing amounts, transactions are slow, many traders are on Tet holiday and have stopped buying. In Kien Giang, there is not much rice supply for sale after Tet, most traders are on Tet holiday, have stopped buying, and transactions are few.

In Dong Thap, the supply of rice for sale is low, traders are on Tet holiday and stop buying, prices fluctuate little. In Can Tho, farmers offer winter-spring rice for sale but there are few buyers, most are on Tet holiday.

In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices today remained unchanged from yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), currently 5% standard rice is at 413 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 387 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 330 USD/ton.

After reaching a record high in 2024, Vietnam's rice exports in 2025 are forecast to decrease in both volume and value due to strong competition in the market.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade as of January 23, 2025, Vietnam's rice export prices are decreasing after many years at the peak. Specifically, 5% standard rice is at 413 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 387 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 330 USD/ton.

The main reason for this price drop is that India has lifted its rice export restrictions after 2 years of temporary closure, increasing supply in the international market and creating downward pressure on prices in the market for other exporting countries, including Vietnam.

On the other hand, demand from Vietnam's major export markets such as the Philippines and Indonesia is currently slowing down, due to abundant domestic reserves and production in 2024 and is currently waiting for prices to fall further before continuing to buy. In addition, in January 2025, rice exporting enterprises did not have many new orders, so rice exports decreased.

On January 1, 2025, the Government issued Decree 01/2025/ND-CP amending Decree 107/2018/ND-CP on rice export business. This Decree is expected to help rice export activities improve.
