Pig price in Central Highlands region

In the Central and Central Highlands regions, live hog prices ranged from VND65,000 to VND68,000 per kilogram. The highest level in the region, VND68,000 per kilogram, was recorded in Thanh Hoa and Dak Lak, while localities such as Quang Tri, Quang Nam and Khanh Hoa only reached VND65,000 per kilogram.

Pig price in the Southern region

In the South, the price of live pigs remained unchanged, maintaining a purchase price of VND64,000 - 68,000/kg. Kien Giang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh provinces had the lowest price in the region, at VND64,000/kg. Meanwhile, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and Ba Ria - Vung Tau recorded VND68,000/kg.

In general, the price of live pigs nationwide today has not changed. It is forecasted that the market in the coming days may fluctuate due to the impact of demand and supply at the end of the year.

The price of live pigs last week recorded a strong increase at the beginning of the week but decreased slightly in some northern provinces at the end of the week. According to experts, the price of live pigs in the days near the end of the year is expected to fluctuate slightly, depending on consumption and supply in the market.

Reasons for high pork prices

The reason why the price of live pigs is currently high is because the demand for pork consumption increases sharply at the end of the year, especially during the Lunar New Year. Food production facilities are also stepping up the purchase of raw materials to meet the processing needs for Tet.

In addition, the impact of the prolonged African swine fever epidemic has caused farmers to worry, sell small pigs early and reduce herds in some large enterprises. This has led to a shortage of large pigs on the market.

In addition, increased production costs such as animal feed, transportation, and other services also increased product prices. In particular, difficulties in importing pigs from Cambodia have contributed to the high price of domestic pigs.

Livestock situation in Thai Nguyen

In Thai Nguyen province, there are currently 1,087 pig and chicken farms that meet biosafety, disease safety and food safety standards, accounting for 65% of the total herd. In addition, 1,255 concentrated livestock farms account for 50% of the total herd, according to Thai Nguyen Newspaper.

Mr. Le Dac Vinh, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, shared: “In recent years, the disease situation in livestock has tended to be complicated and unpredictable, causing many difficulties for people. Therefore, many facilities and farms have proactively applied biosafety farming methods, helping the agricultural sector to achieve better results in the ‘green transformation’.”

Biosafety farming methods require strict control of factors from selecting breeds, food sources, to vaccination and barn hygiene, to minimize the risk of disease. Farmers also need to keep a care and vaccination diary for easy monitoring.
