( Bqp.vn ) - On the afternoon of December 12, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Coast Guard held a press meeting to introduce the second "Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends" exchange program in 2024. Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai, Political Commissar of the Coast Guard chaired the meeting. Attending the meeting were representatives of news agencies and press inside and outside the Army; representatives of functional agencies of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

At the meeting, the Organizing Committee announced that the second exchange program "Vietnam Coast Guard and friends" in 2024 will officially take place from December 17 to 21, 2024, in Hanoi. The program will have the participation of maritime law enforcement forces of 07 countries, including: National Maritime Security Committee of Cambodia; China Coast Guard; Indonesian Coast Guard; Malaysian Maritime Law Enforcement Agency; Philippine Coast Guard; Thai Maritime Command Center and Vietnam Coast Guard. In addition, the program will also have representatives of 02 international agencies and organizations: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Within the framework of the program, there will be a number of main activities, such as: A courtesy call to the Minister of National Defense of Vietnam; opening of the Exchange Program; a courtesy meeting, a bilateral conference between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the delegations; sideline meetings between the delegations; visiting the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition... In particular, the Gala night with the theme "Unity is strength" will be broadcast live at 8:00 p.m. on December 20, 2024, on the Vietnam Defense Television Channel and digital platforms, and rebroadcast on radio and television stations of 28 coastal provinces and cities. At the Gala night, along with impressive exchanges, unique cultural and artistic performances and reports, there will be speeches and sharing by leaders and heads of maritime law enforcement forces of 07 countries and international organizations participating in the program; At the same time, the Vietnam Coast Guard will send a very meaningful message to the maritime law enforcement forces of neighboring countries and countries with adjacent seas: The Vietnam Coast Guard always stands side by side with the international community for a blue ocean, an ocean of peace and human life.

Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai said that, based on the results achieved and continuing to spread the positive effects after the first "Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends" Exchange Program, in 2022, with the consent of the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnam Coast Guard will continue to organize the second "Vietnam Coast Guard and Friends" Exchange Program. With the theme "Cooperation in search and rescue at sea", the program is a strong affirmation of the spirit of solidarity in search, rescue, and response to non-traditional challenges at sea, as well as the determination to join hands and contribute to a peaceful, cooperative, friendly, and developing sea. This is also an opportunity for maritime law enforcement forces of countries in the region to share lessons learned, methods, and ways to effectively carry out search, rescue, and rescue missions at sea; At the same time, it promotes solidarity, unity, strengthens trust, enhances trust, understanding, promotes coordination, and promptly shares information to join hands and contribute to effectively implementing international humanitarian activities, and effectively performing search, rescue, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and incidents at sea.

According to Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai, the second exchange program "Vietnam Coast Guard and friends" is of great significance, one of the key activities, highlights of the Vietnam Coast Guard towards celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, 35 years of National Defense Day. Through the program, the role, responsibility, position and prestige of the Vietnam Coast Guard are increasingly promoted and enhanced; demonstrating the proactiveness, creativity and effectiveness of the Vietnam Coast Guard in the work of Coast Guard diplomacy and defense diplomacy, contributing to protecting the Fatherland early and from afar.
Highlighting the effectiveness of the first exchange program, as well as the highlights of this exchange program, Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai affirmed that the success of the program increasingly demonstrates the capacity of the Vietnam Coast Guard in hosting international foreign affairs activities, both bilateral and multilateral.
