Nearly 400 students dropped out of public 10th grade exam

Ho Chi Minh City 383 candidates were absent on the first day of the exam, losing the chance to enter public grade 10.

On the afternoon of June 6, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that these candidates were sick, had problems or did not want to take the entrance exam to public grade 10. This year, the number of absent candidates was about 2/3 compared to last year.

On the morning of June 6, two candidates were late, arriving more than 15 minutes after the scheduled time, and were therefore not allowed to take the exam. Two other candidates were suspended from the Literature exam for bringing their cell phones into the exam room.

"The exam invigilator made a record, confiscated the phones, sent them to security to check the devices and confirmed that the students did not send the exam papers out," said Mr. Minh.

In addition, a candidate was warned for bringing documents into the Literature exam room. According to the regulations, this candidate will have 50% of his/her score deducted for this subject.

On June 7, candidates will take the final general subject, Mathematics. In the afternoon, candidates taking specialized and integrated exams will take separate exams in 150 minutes.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 114,000 junior high school graduates, of which 96,300 students registered to take the public 10th grade exam, an increase of about 2,000 compared to last year. The total enrollment target of the city's 108 public high schools is 77,300, with an admission rate of about 80%.
